Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Right from the horses mouth, I'm glad Schneider didn't hang himself to the fans and explain it's the orgs plan, seems they didn't plan for Berrios dealing, lol... https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-schneider-explains-why-berrios-was-pulled-from-game-2/

He said Berrios had electric stuff, the best he has seen from him. The man doesn't trust what his eyes are telling him. His players don't trust him now. Poor leadership.

We've all known for years this is how they run things in Toronto. Decisions are made from above the manager...he just needs to be on the field to execute those pre-determined decisions.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 We didn't score a run. We lost because our hitters and lineup construction are falling behind the times

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Well atleast the off-season is starting with some good news. I’m sure he was a fine infield coach. But f*** did he suck as the Third Base Coach.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I hope the person who does our video review also goes into retirement. Can we get people with good eye sight?

Has anyone stopped to think that they told Berrios the plan and told him to empty the tank early on as he wasn't going 7+ innings? Which created an uptick in velocity and stuff?

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 It’s called adrenaline Maybe, but not every pitcher throws better when the adrenaline is flowing. In fact, several struggle with it. I just think it's logical to think that Berrios showed an uptick in velocity because he was told he was on a short leash and shouldn't hold anything back. In fact - I think that's exactly the message he should have received before the game. There's no way you want Berrios holding back in the early innings because he's trying to pace himself and give you 7 innings. He was lights out, but if he was emptying the tanks, who knows how long he could have gone before the results declined. Of course we'll never know. Can't win if you don't score.

Which created an uptick in velocity and stuff? Great point. His velo was def up. All told we can argue the Berrios pull until the cows come home. I think it was the wrong move but it did force Minnesota to burn their pinch hitters and our righty relievers mowed them down the rest of the game. So we may have given up the two runs but it did help us keep them off the board the rest of the game. The offense and a colossal baserunning blunder is what truly screwed us.

Yeah that all seems pretty obvious to me. We score 1 run in 2 games and there are 36 articles and thousands of fans losing their minds over a pitching change in the 4th inning. I get people are upset, but it's like they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn right now.

Of course it doesn’t work every time otherwise guys would be hammering epi pens before every start But it’s as probable as your theory. Do or die game against your old club in October. Easy to imagine he was fired up.

More consistent than normal. 2/3 of an IP 2K.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Hurl, you are a putz for taking down my post. We are all suffering enough at least let us rant unabated for the next few days. The uptick in traffic on this website and resulting bump up in Google Ad revenue should be making it worth it for you guys. Stupid fat bastard Guerrero needs to go.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 If you are Jose Berrios right now... ... aren't you kind of tempted to say "trade me to an organization that will never do that to me"?

Do or die game against your old club in October. Easy to imagine he was fired up. Absolutely. I never said it wasn't. Both options are plausible - I just didn't see anyone suggesting there's a probability that Berrios was told to empty the tank and we don't know how much longer he was going to be able to go with that level of effectiveness. Even if it was adrenaline, that typically wears off at some point. Of course nobody wants to consider that right now.
