Any updates on Danny and Brandon returns?

Regarding Eden, those SB numbers make me salivate. Who’s our fastest base threat this year? Whit? It’s not pretty and hasn’t been for sometime.

Mind you Eden will probably get late inning replacement opportunities but I’m here for his speed. Congratulations

Danny done for the year. Brandon probably not back until last week or playoffs, maybe done for the year.

Merrifield and Kiermaier are tied at 28.8 ft/s

Best base runner is Varsho and the worst are Kirk and Guerrero who are the worst and 26th worst base runners in baseball.

Eden is also a sick defensive outfielder, best in the system, so he will probably get subbed in for George defensively with a lead late in games.

Different note, but I was watching the Yankees broadcast last night and I head Michael Kay say that he talked to people (might have been Kirk himself) in the Jays org and they told him that the plan for Kirk this offseason is to lose weight.

Everyone has a plan until a plate of tacos punches you in the mouth

What exactly was the plan the last three offseasons I wonder

Well, you had the “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” thing going on.

Like maybe the fat helped him generate bat speed. Physics thing

Also, missing Jansen exposes his fitness problems all the more

Hopefully the Jays came to their senses and realized that having obese athletes and not instructing them to lose weight is a horrible idea.

My thinking is they were too scared to tell Manoah and Kirk to lose weight last off season cause they were coming off great seasons and not wanting to seem like they were fat shaming them lololololol. It would fit in with the M.O of this front office and the current social climate

Why assume that the front office is not telling the players to get in shape?

They can't exactly MAKE a player do anything. Baseball has a lot of fatties. Always has.

Eating disorders are hard.

They did convince Vlad to drop a bunch of fat the one year.

Kirk as well a few seasons ago. It's all back now but...at least they know the ability is there if the player wants it.

I guess people assume that they actually do have control over their players 24/7 365. It's a weird assumption

They can't make them get in shape, but they can hold them accountable by benching them and reducing their play time.

sir, they banished Alek Manoah to Buffalo and refused to put him on the obesity IL

How would benching Kirk right now benefit the Jays?

How would.benching Vlad in April this season have benefitted the Jays?

A player can't do much to massively lose weight during the season it's all about maintenance.

IDK, I said this from the get go, they tell em' assign a regimen even personal trainers and chefs... it's up to them. I'm sure the team tells them their not happy with weight, it happened with Berriera this past camp.

I think you’re probably right. They thought well even though he’s fat he’s raking and body shaming is reprehensible behaviour so it’s fine instead of being proactive

Scroll around the threads. There's more than one poster here who thinks the Jays have, or should have the power to determine what players do in the offseason.

All they can do is suggest a course of action.

Can the hold them accountable if the course of action is not met?

You're talking about the MILB thread, it's absolutely on the athletes, not management.

He was legit losing weight until this past offseason, cause he was having a kid, I'll give him a mulligan this year. Shwarber did it.

They all can do it. It’s not even that difficult for them with resources, disposable income, time etc.

The question is whether or not they put in the time

I keep hearing this mantra of "holding players accountable". Is the team supposed to demote their prospective #1 starter and a silver slugger catcher to AAA or something if they show up to spring training heavier than the season before or something?

If it were some dipshit bench guy...ya sure. But two guys who are core pieces are never gonna see anything punitive done to them for any extended period of time. What purpose does cutting off your nose to spite your face accomplish?

It would just hurt the team. Trading guys like that if there's a partner and a good return would be far more likely than ever seeing a guy like Kirk or Vlad benched. And a trade for that reason is pretty unlikely.
