Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 At least Bo might be back when first eligible... Could return next Friday Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday that Bichette (quad) could return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Sept. 8, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Advice: Bichette is traveling with the Blue Jays and did some running, hitting and light fielding work ahead of Friday's series opener at Colorado. The 25-year-old shortstop was just placed on the IL this past Tuesday after being diagnosed with a right quad strain, but the issue is apparently relatively minor. Ernie Clement has been filling in at short for Toronto. Losing Jano blows though, damn!

The poor dudes hands must look like they've been put through a trash compactor with the litany of hit by pitches and foul balls he's taken to the hands recently.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Yeah this is the time when Varsho being the backup C would be extremely useful. Not sure why the front office refuses to play him there Might have something to do with the fact that he's arguably MLB's best outfield defender.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Schneider just said that Jansen has a minor fracture in his right middle finger. Get ready for some Heineman. s*** luck. Should be back for playoffs, if they make it. Got to lean on Kirk. Good thing he's heating up, but a big loss for sure.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Don’t even say that or they’ll f***ing sweep us Jordan f***ing Lyles with his 6.51 ERA shut down Boston last night haha. Love it!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 All I want in life is for the Blue Jays to be the final Wild Card team I need to watch Vlad groundout on the first pitch (a sinker down the f***ing middle) with the bases loaded in the playoffs Fixed for you
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Might have something to do with the fact that he's arguably MLB's best outfield defender. Sure, but he’s mostly playing LF anyways and we have other guys we can slot there. Meanwhile our backup C options f***ing suck

I'm not sure it's worth the risk of having him taken out by injury to start him at catcher, especially with him not having seen any playing time there at all this season. If most of all the other Jays hitters didnt have such s***ing hitting seasons no one would be bitching about Varsho!
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Why is pic so tiny? Ump score card from Angel last night. As bad as anyone that saw the game thought.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 That's pretty damn bad Angel.
Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 serious question, I have a Guerrero jersey as a gift from a family member out of province so I can't return it. Is the blue jays doing exchanges like how the rays are doing for Wander Franco? I'm willing to take any jersey really, doesn't even have to be a current Jay. It could be Jays who were DFA'd or released. Anyone who isn't actively harming the team. Manoah, Travis, Mitch White, Carlos Delgado, etc.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Man, like a lot of us do I feel bad for Jano. He seems to just get in a groove and another unlucky injury - Catching so tough on the body. Just after he blasts a ball over 450 ft. Another big loss after a year of amazing Jays injury luck.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Ernie Clement - .5 fWAR in 25 PAs Vlad Jr - .5 fWAR in 574 PAs

If so, catchers generally don’t set up with their throwing hand behind them as it makes it more difficult if they need to block a ball in the dirt or try to throw someone out

Every catcher is different, could still place it up against his hip or down next to his knee instead it as completely exposed
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Kevin Gausman vs Chase Anderson tomorrow. If we can’t win that game we’re screwed
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Vlad Jr - One of the most disappointing busts in the Blue Jays history. This guy had a 70 overall value in 20-80 scouting scale, but keeps finding a way to disappoint fans.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Yep. I hope the splitter splits at Coors. Going into this "weak schedule" stretch Buck (I know I know) said we needed to go 12-3. Its like a bad dream we are 4-4. This team will drive you mad. We have to start today stringing together W's. TEX is a good team - expect them to pull out of this swoon. Same for HOU. SEA is unconscious - JROD stepping up. Compared to Vlad's .375 slug - Teo slugging .636 .355 avg with 8 bombs/26 RBIs his last 30 games. Just sayin' not sayin'
deanmike Verified Member Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Ernie Clement - .5 fWAR in 25 PAs Vlad Jr - .5 fWAR in 574 PAs Vlad's fWAR is being heavily inflated by his DH appearances because he doesn't have to play defense. The guy who created ZiPS thinks he is probably going to have to become a full-time DH soon because his defense is that bad already. Vlad only has 0.1 fWAR in 452 PA at 1B this year, and 0.3 fWAR in 126 PA at DH. Ever since his early season wrist injury, he has -0.5 fWAR in 430 PA since returning from that injury on May 9th. The guy is a straight up below-replacement level bum now.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 With the Rangers literally in free fall, if the Jays don't take the 3rd WC spot especially with one of the easiest schedules, what a huge disappointment.

It's been super frustrating, but serious changes will have to be made this offseason to the roster and coaching staff. This team and FO just aren't as good as some people think. Another wasted opportunity in 2023 from the looks of it unfortunately.

Another wasted opportunity in 2023 from the looks of it unfortunately. This is hardly the FO fault. This season is completely on 3 players: Vlad, Manoah, and Kirk. No one else is to blame for this season. All three have hit like their 10th percentile projections, maybe even worse. If these three tubs of lard had even hit their average projections we are probably leading the division.

So much depends on Vlad doing damage. 20 - Blown out in playoffs 21 - Miss playoffs by a game 22 - All time epic Jays playoff meltdown 23 - ? Glass half full we are in the hunt every year. Glass half empty WTF. This is the 7th highest payroll and 11th oldest team in baseball with a narrowing window (arguably) and we haven't so much as won one playoff game (not that that would suffice).
