Well for starters you are constantly calling Brownie and myself homers. I love how you frame a simple internet debate as "attacking" other posters if we disagree with someone else's opinion. It sounds like if a poster thinks this is a solid team that has underperformed yet don't see the need for drastic moves this means you should be constantly chided about being a homer. You can go ahead and point out where I refuse to debate or discuss criticism of the front office where it's warranted. If I don't agree with some of the criticism and *gasp* formulate a different opinion than what has been presented in front of me why should that lead to a constant series of attacks from the likes of you? Like it or not there are going to be different opinions on this message board, and most of us here are very knowledgeable and don't just spout nonsense without applying some kind of logic behind it.

 

This may come as a surprise to you but we are free to have our own opinions and to share them without the likes of you chiding us for not blindly following along with the overwhelming negativity that permeates this place when the team is struggling. There is a difference between thinking that this front office has mostly made solid moves in the buildup of this team, and there is no need to start running around like chickens with our heads cut off when the team is failing to live up to the pre-season expectations.

Wish some of those rookies in 2002 like Hinske and Phelps went on to have big careers with the Jays. Sucks they both kind of just fell flat afterwards. Hinske was still somewhat decent as a platoon guy but Phelps just was useless afterwards.

Man do I miss Carlos Delgado. He had some really good seasons with the Jays and was consistent year to year! Hopefully Vlad could get out of his rut and just be a consistent 30-40 HR bat with strong batting lines.

Vlad is barely better than Hinske? Worse than Teo? And worse than Jose Cruz? lmao yikes

 

It seems weird that Jose Cruz Jr. is better. But Cruz was actually a super consistent 2 WAR player and massively under-appreciated by the idiots running the team, both Gord Ash, and J.P.

 

Ash kept sending him down to aaa when he was drawing tonnes of walks, showing a bit of power and playing OK in the outfield, then Cito got a hold of him and he hit 30 homeruns a couple of times with less walks, then he had a mediocre 2001, that was still worth 2 WAR with his baserunning and defense, but J.P. released him I guess because they couldn't really figure out the defense and baserunning back then.

 

Then he went to San Francisco and had a nice year, maybe Bonds told him it was OK to walk...

 

Cruz is second to Olerud in my mind in the 'what could have been'... missed probably 100 games being sent down and occasionally benched for no reason, had a wide variety of skills which nobody appreciate. If he had come up with a progressive organization who realized his value, encouraged his patience and and just him to play 155, walk as much as he wanted and play good defense, he would have had a much better career.

 

He is the same as Vlad in value because Vlad is on pace to go like almost 0, 0, 6, 3, 0 in WAR and Cruz went 2, 2, 2, 2, 2

Some guys don't come back the same, some come back with more velo and less control, who knows. If Ryu has his normal pinpoint command, he should be a very nice boost, so yeah, 50/50 is fair.

There is also a rumor that some guy Otto Volez who the old timers probably can tell us more about, is better than Vlad according to the fWAR. This rumor is .... I don't know. I haven't divided out their fWAR per game. It is close VGJR and Otto Volez are close. Hinske, Hernandeez, Jose Cruz, Otto Volez, Vladimir Guerrero JR, a collection of 8-11 WAR in 600 games Toronto Blue Jays.

 

Never saw Velez play but remember the name.

How about these next 15 games? Giants are on a heater, but other than that. A's, Red Sox, White Sox, Tigers. If we take care of business and don't get swept by the Giants should be able to go 10-5 and be in a playoff spot.

 

Is it unrealistic to think that this is just the player Vladdy is and he had to much hype? Maybe his minor league career and one great season were outliers.

I think what we saw from Vladdy in the later half of 21 and all of 22 is what he is and that's fine.

 

I think BNS said something like if they needed Manoah for a slot it would line up after a few simulated or MiLB games for around Canada Day. I don't think we'll see him then though.
