John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 To further your point, Teoscar Hernandez leads the league in Defensive Runs Saved No doubt. It takes like 4 or 5 months for DRS to be even remotely useful, and even then ...

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Vladdy 12yrs/360M, get it done! I think that would be there at end of season. I wouldn’t do it and I’m a Vlad fanboy. Doesn’t hurt to just see how this year goes.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Vladdy recently when asked by Hazel May if he wanted to stay in Toronto. In English, with no hesitation "I want to spend the rest of my life here" He also said “i know who I am.” And “if it happens it happens” Now maybe there’s some stuff lost in translation here but IMO he’s basically alluding to the fact that we’ve offered him a long term deal but not at the dollar amount he’s looking for.

There was no translation with Hazel May, he spoke in English
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 There was no translation with Hazel May, he spoke in English Bro… I mean he MAY have mispoken. He obviously doesn’t speak great English. Which is exactly why he chooses to do most interviews with the translator. Now IDK if he pre-translated his answers beforehand or if they did it more in the moment. Anyways the other stuff I said still stands.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 I'm cool with 10-12 years for 300-350 Have said several times. His skill set should age well. And I don't want to see him mashing elsewhere from age 27-33

And I don't want to see him mashing elsewhere from age 27-33 Well if you think genetics are an important factor in determining long-term health of an athlete… his father did not age very well. That is, assuming his father’s age is actually true because he had a very odd production curve compared to most guys.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Belt in the lineup at DH feels like a bit of a throw They need to find out if he’s finished or not asap I think give him at bats early and punt him next month if he’s still floundering

His father's knees were ruined by his years playing on the artificial turf in Montreal so he's probably not a great comparison.

His dad played OF on a pot of turf too though But I suppose he also was never overweight
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Walker became a media and fan deity for "fixing" Robbie Ray. Did he "break" Berrios? Facetiously. He is picking right up where '22 left off. Spin rate 18th percentile and he looks so hittable if he misses at all. Glass half full at some times he looked a little better last night. His whole body language on the mound is terrible and he panicked on the ball back to him last night. Sure hope they can get it worked out. So frustrating to give up 2 top prospects (at the time) and that deal to watch this.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 I just saw this podcast interview of Chapman just before St Louis series. Great interview. Some Questions asked: spring training and he jokes that he never packs his road grey pants. if he has a special glove and he said he uses the same glove for last five years (but says it sucks because he is always being given these sick ass gloves but still goes back to old one) Asked about Bo's Defence ( reminds him of Semien how he used to have to work on defence and through hard work became a gold glover we know he wont say Bos glove sucks, Monoahs character he laughed and said kid is gonna get me in a fight one day. ( He said manoah hit Judge and was saying sorry to him and Chappy got in between them and felt like he was a kid between 2 giants. Talked about pregame meals and what time they normally show up for night games and favourite park. Its a solid interview.

Yeah he has 6 years left including this season. Well, 4 years left with 2 player options after that but I don't think there's any amount of inflation that would make him turn down 2/48 in 2027. That's just a horrific contract now considering how bad he was in 2022 and how nothing seems to have changed so far this season. They'll obviously keep throwing him out there hoping he can be fixed, but I wonder how long a team with World Series aspirations playing in the AL East will keep going to him if he can't right himself. Last season he was at least half way decent in the home games so if that trend continues then we can at least look forward to that when he starts.

I would hope if he continues to struggle like this he would at least consider spending more offseason time in the pitching lab or consider heading to somewhere like Driveline.
Krusty Verified Member Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Not the start I was hoping we would have, but have gotten it together a little bit. Hopefully we can finish this series today on a high. Been going a ton of personal problems and health problems as to why been off the forum for awhile, but hopefully those are all behind me now and can watch the Jays do what we all know they can.

I got slammed on here for suggesting he should have done that this offseason...
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 I got slammed on here for suggesting he should have done that this offseason... Because some people are homers and contrarian to a fault. I agree with you. You can't chalk up everything to bad luck. 18th percentile spin rate on the FB is awful, if they improved that to, say, the 70s, maybe his mistakes will be tougher to square up?
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 I got slammed on here for suggesting he should have done that this offseason... You got slammed because you were one step short of suggesting the team should lock their players up in cages during the offseason only letting them out to train.
