Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 I like how it will be easier to douse the players in the visitor bullpen with beer.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 What would we think of Biggio, Richards and a s***** prospect for Barlow (who has 2 years of control left)? I think I'm down for that if we can bring in a vet to replace Biggio. No way. They would be burning Biggio for such a tiny upgrade.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Not a fan of Asian chicks actually. Well I like Western Asian but “Asian” brings Oriental to mind There's no point in posting about The Sheriff's personal life anymore when I keep getting outdone by a real life version.

I think I'm down for that if we can bring in a vet to replace Biggio. No way. They would be burning Biggio for such a tiny upgrade. The team hates Biggio. It's clear as day with the moves they make. And with his batted ball data I can see why even though he projects pretty well. The one thing he does do is walk but his OBP is dragged down by a brutal xBA of .214, .207 and .193 xBA for the past 3 seasons. He's one of those high walk/low BA guys that is right on the knife's edge of either being really good or being out of the league. You see it a lot with aging sluggers like Jose Bautista at the end of their careers. If guys like that can hit .230 they are damn good but if they hit .190 they're done. And Biggio is trending a lot closer to the .190 for 3 seasons running. Maybe the shift ban helps him but he hits the ball in the air so often I'm not sure how much it will help. If there is some sort of data that shows that he's going to get a big BA boost then I could be convinced to change my mind. So yeah I would do a Biggio for Barlow trade. Barlow's statcast page has a ton of red and he has successful closing experience showing he has the nerves to handle it, for whatever that is worth.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Looking forward to the Fangraphs article on how the new dimensions will affect the run environment. I have no idea really but my best guess is that it will be a net positive for offense but nothing major. I believe next year they are reducing the amount of foul ground in the infield. That could boost the offense more than anything.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Josh Harrison is a FA and can act as a super utility guy. Think he put up good stats defensively last season as well.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 It amazes me how many fans (mostly under 30 I find) think that every ball park should have the exact same standard sized field. I get that every other sport does, but baseball can be unique.

Not that you can really have too many, but with Biggio, Merrifield, Varsho, Espinal and probably Lopez…I think they’ve got the utility positions covered nicely.

I get that every other sport does, but baseball can be unique. I don’t think they all need to be exact, but there shouldn’t be a massive difference in the distance from home plate to any wall of the outfield. The fact that some parks you can hit a HR that’s like 30-40 feet shorter than the same spot in another park makes little sense. Not mandating an exact footage is fine but at least legislate a minimal range of distances to the corners, power alleys and dead centre. It’s not impossible to add character to a ballpark without massively screwing with wall distance and height
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Agreed Bench seems pretty good jays that can play CF - Varsho, Springer, KK, Merrifield and Lopez Jays that can play the corner OF - all of the CF, plus Biggio 3b -Chapman, Espinal and to far lesser extent if there’s an emergency Biggio. SS- Bo, Espinal, Lopez 2b - Merrifield, Espinal, Biggio, Lopez 1b- Vlad, belt, Biggio C - Jansen, Kirk, Varsho Every position has at least 3 guys that can play it

But it was a rare feat.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 6 interesting names there for my money. Hernandez, Fernandez, Francis, Juenger, Robberse and Tiedemann
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 6 interesting names there for my money. Hernandez, Fernandez, Francis, Juenger, Robberse and Tiedemann Yep, those guys all have a shot to make the team at some point this year, and not be complete "we're f***ed" moves.

We have a pretty durable looking 1-4.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2023 Author Posted January 30, 2023 Does anyone think that Ryu could actually come in for the 2nd half and give us some quality starts to close out the season....or are we all just assuming he's dead.

I think there's a chance it happens, but I don't think it's a particularly large chance.

I think so. Having Ryu on deck for the dog days of summer to make 5-8 “starts” or whatever would be a big plus. He’s still better than Kikuchi and White even at 35 after TJS

Yep, that's the plan. I'm not expecting him to be that great but hopefully he can eat some innings as a 4/5. That's right near the trade deadline so if he has any setbacks we can switch gears.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Ryu doesn't rely on velocity as much, so he should be fine. I don't think the issue will be performance but his innings limitations.
