Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 Mattingly gone before he even steps foot in Canada. Just a side gig. He's still with the Jays.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Mattingly gone before he even steps foot in Canada. He's got one foot out the door already.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 He's got one foot out the door already. He's likely just here for one season anyways. Unless he gets promoted in the organization, though looks like he has his eyes set on the Country Music Capital haha.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Mattingly's bench coach role with the Blue Jays won't be impacted. Nashville would be a great spot for an expansion team. Such an awesome city! Just coming to say I got it wrong. Also yes Nashville has always been my number 2 choice for an Expansion city (right after Mexico City)

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Really nice deal Zach Thompson is a great depth P

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Really nice deal Zach Thompson is a great depth P Meh...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Dude has 3 options left. This seems like a good pick up to add depth as our #7/#8 starter. These are the types of holes we needed to fill IMO.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 That's a nifty trade. Thompson looked like a legit starter heading into last year and has options. We needed a guy like him in Buffalo badly.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Meh... Use your brain Guys like Thompson are in fact harder to find than guys like Fernandez
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 3 options, not even arb eligible until 2025, can start or relieve. Certainly checks a few boxes there. But average FB velocity is 92, that's not doing much for anyone in this day and age...

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Use your brain Guys like Thompson are in fact harder to find than guys like Fernandez Fernandez was likely going to be DFA'd for Belt anyway... it's still meh. Looks like the Jays DFA'd Fernandez and traded Young. It's depth.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Man, I'd have rather kept JF, I sure hope we never see this dude start. Wrong on this one Spank. Great move!
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Thompson is 6 foot 7? That's a win right there.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 We can fix him Was just gonna post this. His 2021 statcast page is intriguing.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Thompson put up decent numbers in 2021 with the Marlins. He's going to be in Buffalo most of the season, but great to have a guy like him down there with options. If he needs to make 10-15 starts at the MLB level because of an injury, he won't hurt the Jays. Overall, excellent depth move.
The_DH Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 i figured Fernandez was gone for Belt.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 The savant graphs that Tao of Stieb posted aren't from his slider though correct? That's just his overall page?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 So Fernandez is DFA'd for Thompson but we'll still need to make a move for Belt when that becomes official. Who are we going to DFA? Thornton?
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 So Fernandez is DFA'd for Thompson but we'll still need to make a move for Belt when that becomes official. Who are we going to DFA? Thornton? Hopefully.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Julian Merryweather DFA’d to make room for Brandon Belt. End of an era. Sad the Jays had nothing to show for Josh Donaldson after trading him. Oh well, can't win them all.
