Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Oh boy... must be a serious overpay for him to sign so fast.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Surprised he signed before Chapman Surprised The Reds signed an IF, Must be trading 1 of them. Hope its not CES.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 wtf Huh? They must have a deal in the works.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) wtf They are being aggressive... Martinez, Pagan and now Candyman.... I also thought they had an IF glut so this is surprising only from that perspective... Edited December 7, 2023 by Carlos Danger
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Interesting move by the Reds. Don't really need another infielder but this probably sets up a trade where they can move India for a starter. Didn't really like the Martinez signing but they do need pitchers like him. Regardless, seems like they are spending some money to fill some holes. They should be pretty good this year. Could be a potential trade partner for us.

Its needs help, around the horn You have CES, Steer, McLain, Elly De La Cruz, Marte, and India. For Third, Steer, Marte, and CES, so why this needed. focus on Rotation and the pen., I have CES McLain, Elly in a fantasy team hate to see them moved to a s***** team. jaysthebest Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 f***... The Reds signed with the Jeimer... We are now in the position of either sign Ohtani or getting doomed and re-sign Chappy.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 f***... The Reds signed with the Jeimer... We are now in the position of either sign Ohtani or getting doomed and re-sign Chappy. I was thinking we missed out on an opportunity with Eugenio Suarez... The Diamondbacks didn't really give up a lot for him.. Nice pop, plays a solid 3b.... Regardless if we were getting Soto, Ohtani, etc, we still needed a 3b with pop.

India's name was thrown around earlier as a potential swap for Alex Manoah. Also, suggested him yesterday as a possible target in one of the other threads.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 The Reds have like 7 everyday infielders now

I'm surprised the front office seemingly passed on Suarez who was traded for relative peanuts, and Candelario's deal was actually pretty reasonable as well. That only leaves Chapman as available third baseman in free agency so hopefully there are some decent trade candidates out there.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Reds go straight back to 2002 mode when they get to spend money
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I am kind of shocked that the Reds went for Candelario. They have so many infielders already. He is going to be a 1B/DH for them. And he had leverage as the #2 third baseman on the market. Now everybody knows they like, HAVE to trade India.

He’s probably been floated already like BTS floats his fantasy players. At some point it’s not shooting yourself in the foot anymore.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 3 years, $45M for Candyman + $15M club option
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Reds probably going to trade for a SP (Glasnow, Bieber, whoever). The glut of infielders should help them get a decent SP one would think. Still doesn't make sense to sign Candy if their intention is to keep Elly, McLain, and Marte, though. Seems like a waste of resources.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Trade for Yoan Moncada. Why? He's awful
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Why? He's awful He’s basically an upgrade from Chapman last year 5/6 of the time.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 He’s basically an upgrade from Chapman last year 5/6 of the time. No he's not. Chapman had approximately 10 weeks where he was great, and about 10 weeks where he struggled. This narrative that he was only good in April is absolutely false.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 The only thing Jays could do to cringe me out is sign Chapman for 5/125 or worse
