Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 lol that did happen By who? That's misguided... it's nice to see him turn a corner though.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 The Mariners play 15 shitbaggers in a row... W-Sox, Royals, A's, Mets, Reds, than Tampa after that, a very similar schedule, Jays need to make it hurt, starting with the O's. Kind of thinking there is a decent chance Seattle goes off and Toronto ends up flipping Houston or TB...

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 I can't even believe Toronto is in this position. Their roster is/was so much better than some of these teams. What a waste.

Meh. It sucks that we always seem to be underachieving, but if they play like they’re capable for just the next few weeks all is well.

That's part of it But also would never have expected such a crappy collective offensive output from Vladdy, Chapman, Kirk, Espinal and Varsho Bullpen, defense and the top 4 SP have been top notch
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Holy s*** The whole world is either burning or flooding WTF Only going to get a lot worse
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Luis Urias hit 2 grand slams on 2 consecutive pitches this week, extremely rare

Even Chapman since May 1 has an 86 wRC+ (.208/.301/.362) and 1.2 WAR in 385 PA (yes he was that good in April). It's a testament to how good the pitching has been that the Jays are even this good record-wise. Varsho and Springer have at least been coming on lately. All 3 of the Jays, M's, and Astros have relatively easy schedules down the stretch. It's going to come down to the wire. The Rays have a tougher schedule but may have enough distance between them and the Jays to not worry too much. Six games is catchable but not ideal.

MLB Tankathon groups them all together but says we have the toughest (they just use current Win%). Fangraphs says we have the easiest (they use their projections I think).
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Torkelson might be waking up, finally?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Kerry Carpenter with another HR tonight. That's 7 home runs in 10 games. Crazy!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Mariners are on FIRE. 8 game win streak, 3 game losing streak and now a 6 game winning streak again and they are up 3-0 and counting against the White Sox in the top of the first.

They're a good team. I'm not sure there's a rotation in baseball that's clearly better than Castillo, Kirby, Gilbert, Miller, and Woo.

Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 is it wrong to have a second favourite team? Im from BC and in grade 7 we got to go to Seattle for 2 nights and trash a hotel room, go shopping, see the zoo and watch a mariners game. Many people in BC liked the mariners as well. I am torn. All I know is I hate the orioles more than I like the blue jays and mariners.

Another team to keep an eye on is the Rangers. They lead the West by 2.5 on the Astros and 3 on the Mariners heading into tonight (and 3.5 up on the Jays). Conceivable that they could be passed in the standings by one or both of Seattle/Houston, which muddies up the WC even more. The Jays also have 4 games against the Rangers in September.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 It's going to be a wild ride for sure. Every game is going to be a butt clencher
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 F'n Mariners again Mariners, Astros and Rangers all play tonight. At the beginning of the night it was 1/8 they'd win... but of course they'll alll win. Someone might as well make money off this s***. Did anybody bet on all of Mariners, Astros and Rangers to win?
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Astros may have been struggling a bit but they still have enough, up 7 - 3 on Paxton and the Res Sox

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 do a lot of the members here not have access to box scores? What a terrible off day. A lot of the members are pretty weak psychologically including myself. The Blue Jays not making the playoffs combined with the failure of Vladimir Guerrero Jr has put me and others in a very deep depression. Seeing the great franchises, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers among other sell playoff tickets for playoff game that will actually happen makes many of us shed a tear as we know the end has come and anybody buying Blue Jays playoff tickets (if they even bother to sell them) will have to figure out how to get the god-damn refunds. So basically we are too depressed to check the scores as we know it will only be bad, Seattle wins every day and never loses... we come on this great message board in hopes to have the news broken to us gently by the kind friendly people that post here. Congratulations to the Seattle Mariners for making the 2023 playoffs and for keeping your franchise player, Julio Rodriquez, at a very nice playing weight and signing him to a 20 year contract, you Seattle fans have 20 years of joy ahead.

Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Top favorite teams 2023: braves, orioles. Mariners. Jays. Reassess in 4 weeks.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 what do you mean? I think he means like why post scores when people can go to the box scores to see what is happening... I have access to all the internet sites but only look at this one, so appreciate that people post the scores so I can see that the Mariners have won again for the 19th time in 23 days.
Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 what do you mean? this forum is for A plus content and high IQ discussion, not just oh the Astros are still good, 7-3, Paxton blowing it.
