There are significant cultural differences here that may or may not merit consideration. Vlad Sr has 8 kids with 5 different mothers. Fact, not racism. We all know about Robbie Alomar.

I find it crazy that all teams aren't doing this. It might also provide an advantage when drafting HS guys late in the draft. Signing bonuses are capped, but if teams are willing to provide great resources to their minor league guys it might sway them to sign instead of going to college.

Just adding some context for the numbers, but the teenage measures 15-19 for that number. Not 13 in case people were thinking it went from that age onwards.

 

Also I imagine contraceptive access is also a factor in the higher rates. It's obviously a higher rate, but the US teen birth rate has dropped by like a factor of four since the 90's. And contraceptive access has played a role in the drop here.

This isn’t as uncommon as people think. Even in Canada it happens. The biggest difference in this case is money and fame. Not saying its right. But important details rolling out about this were conveniently left out to make him look more guilty. Like for instance them both being underaged wihen the relationship started. The family approval of the relationship. And ultimately the fact that he made an attempt to rectify the situation but than basically got blackmailed for a car and money.

 

And if the ages were 13 and 17 that’s not even worth making a fuss about it. That relationship is basically a 9th grader dating a 12th grader that is literally happening at every high school in your local area. A girl I grew up with got knocked up in Grade 9 by a dude who was about to graduate. Same age gap, 13 and 17. She even went to his prom. Nobody said s***.

I think a trade will be almost impossible. Franco owners will be able to live with him never coming back - there's no way they could have seen it coming, so nothing could have been done for it. No mistake made on their end. What they won't be able to live with is moving him for pennies on the dollar, then having him be cleared and come back next April. So they'll only trade him for a return that might be OK even if he comes back, but no owner will offer that right now.
