You actually CAN screw up with minor league deals because you only get so many

If you bring in a guy like Touki then all other candidates think of themselves as potentially one spot lower on the depth chart, and are less likely to go to Buffalo

So you still need to make good minor league signings!

IIRC the minor league guys last year that Toronto signed were Biagini, Jose De Leon, and Derek Holland. Well the major league team got nothing from them, not even a s***** spot start! It did kind of hurt.

This is a good point - we signed the equivalent to Toussaint last year in De Leon. Man he seemed like a can't miss prospect way back when.

Devers getting paid!

They had to keep him, if they let him walk it would be a terrible look for the franchise. Now they can point to him and say "see we are serious!"

I mean I can see giving an 11 year deal to a 26 year old. I don’t mind it tbh. It’s the 11 year deals to 30 year olds that are going to age like milk.

Still a lot of dough, he's now the highest paid 3rd baseman. Chappy going to get paid. Totally agree about the older guys getting long deals.

Yeah I don’t think this deal will blow up or look terrible like the others will. Devers is a great hitter, lefty, young, and should be able to smoothly transition to 1B if needed in the later years.

I really can’t see Chapman getting more than 6 years unless he has a monster season. His numbers are just too under-the-radar and too much of his value is tied to defense.

I'm sure he'll be fine making 25+ on a 6 year deal.

Miley is off the board and with the Brew Crew. I would have been happy with him as a 5th SP.

Damn nice deal for the Brewers. I like Miley he always beats his expected stats and keeps the ball on the ground.

Ya but that’s what a Bo or Vlad contract is gonna look like. 30M is the new 25M.

He has like a 6 win season, a dumper and a couple of 4+ years. I think the Red Sox did great and they pretty much had to lock him up.

Agreed tho Spanky Chappy is gonna get paid and I want no part of it. 6/150 is scary

I know that. That's a middle infielder star and a possibly a generational bat, haha! There's a few better 3B making considerably less, Devers is a stud, but 330M. Somewhere Austin Riley weeps! :P

I think Miley is mince meat if you look at his 2022 injuries

- neck strain end of 2021, and was delayed to start 2022

- elbow inflammation April, DL

- shoulder strain May, DL

- shoulder strain June, DL

- shoulder injury setback while on DL in August

- oblique issue September, avoided DL but didn't start

like... this guy is f***ed right

Sounds like he might be better than his expected stats

I don't get your point. This still happens regularly. Pitchers throw at/near batters and benches clear so everyone can waste time yelling at each other.

Miley likely signed with the Brewers for a rotation spot, though. Miley would've been nice though.

Of course. He’s not useful unless he’s chewing innings. I doubt the Jays bring in any more arms even though I think they should.

I'd give Cueto that same deal, but with a few more million in incentives.

Yeah, so I expect the Jays to sign Cueto, Pollock and Moore to the roster by ST. ;)
