Stop wasting roster spots on Catchers period. Just promote Hagen Danner. He can catch when he’s not pitching. When he’s pitching just have one of the extra players do it. Problem solved.

If he can’t catch and pitch at the same time he’s not worth rostering

You know what. We need to start having this conversation. It’s becoming a lot more common that failed position players transition to Pitching because they can’t hit. For the ones that are still good Defensively why can’t they still play Defense when they aren’t pitching. Someone like Anthony Gose should stiill be absolutely be playing the Outfield as a Defensive sub.

Why can’t this be a thing. Most pitchers shag fly balls and some of them even take infield. They are limiting versatility!

Did SD try this with Christian Bethancourt back in 2016? He was going to be a relief pitcher, backup catcher and backup OFer? Didn't work unfortunately.

how about Lee jung hoo from Korean baseball? he is left handed hitting and fast and can play center fielder

he isn't eligible until end of next year.

Who needs a catcher. I checked the new shifting rules. There's no rule against putting your catcher in the outfield. Just don't let anyone get on base, you might end up with a few passed balls.

I am pretty sure that a catcher must stay in the catcher's box until the pitch is delivered.

Let the kids play

But not in the dugout. They must remain stoic 100% of the time in the dugout or they aren't doing it right!

I bet they did have fun winning 92 games in the toughest division in baseball...

Yes because the end goal is to finish top 12 in all of baseball

So, your contention is that if only they hadn't had any fun, they'd have won the World Series?

Yes the Jays had a solid season, though no player or fan should be jumping for joy the way the season went overall.

I'm not jumping for joy with how the season went, I just think it's silly speculation from grumpy old men that "they'd have done better if they weren't messing around so much! Damn kids are on my lawn again!"

Nobody has ever said that they’re not allowed to have fun. What people have been critical of is when they’re down 8-3 and the barrio is clowning around at the far end of the dugout.

The everybody should always have fun jockeys are apart of the participation trophy crowd.

It’s not the try league!

I'd love to see proof that how players act in the dugout has even a tiny affect on how they perform on the field.

People like Swanson this much eh? Looks like he has 1 dominant season and an avg FB V wise. 93.7

Is his stuff that good? I've barely seen him pitch. Looking forward to hearing a Sarris breakdown on this deal.

Finally caught a Sarris breakdown FWIW on Swanson and the Nimmo.

His has Swanson rated better than Montero who just got 3/30, and worth 3/35 in todays market (not that he would be eligible now).

He likes Nimmo, even at 6/130 which is like $7mm/win based on projections. I was surprised. Loves his OBP and lack of chase. Sees him as major upgrade over Teo. General take was Teo move was pretty clever for money and a number of reasons.

Grumpy old men are about to burn the world to the ground so no thanks.

I’d like to see you prove it doesn’t. Except you can’t. So don’t say “prove it”

The claimant has the burden of proof. Max isn't claiming anything.

Maybe in something other than sports commentary that may be true

I'm kind of in the middle on all this. I don't like the HR jacket much but I don't mind it. I find most fans love the joking around and comradery in the dugout when we are winning and loathe it when we aren't. We heard a lot of talk at the end of the '21 season after their September "almost made it in" run about how great they all got along and how you could see this in the dugout with them joking around all then time. I'd like to see less of it when we are doing/playing poorly myself, but I don't get too upset over it. 162 games is a grind.

I find I get much more upset about mental errors, poor baserunning, very lackadaisical play etc. It happens on every team at times, but there is never really a good excuse for it at this level.

Bro. Like 95% of ESPN and TNT sports commentary is opinions on stuff like that. Accept it and move on. Save the legal jargon for your work pushing papers
