connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Yeah, everyone is like “we’re so smart and savvy, not paying for Iglesias”. “Great move, you don’t pay for BP even when you have a title contender, we can just get mediocre guys having a good season on a sss, pitching in the 6th inning and it’s the same…” Meanwhile AA in ATL wins himself a division lol
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Yah with 2 good pitchers and nobody in sight coming up off the farm. Pearson is a total bust, but yea one of the best built teams in baseball right now bahahah. You do realize pitching wins in this league not 22 right handed power bats. Jays had the 8th best starting pitching in baseball this year. Losing two guys expected to be in the rotation from the start of the year. I agree that they need to add more depth. It's not going to be an easy off season financially as the Arb eligible players will get some raises. Sripling or replacing Stripling is way more priority for me than bullpen. I still hope they do it through Trade. They have the assets to move

Almost as if good/experienced relievers are important.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Which game in 1987? I've been a diehard fan since 1984, and this is FOR SURE the worst loss in franchise history. Just the biggest choke, disgusting win ever. I am not even sad. Just really angry. '87 was worst by how collectively they s*** the bed down the stretch. For one game, this has to be it, likely worst collapse in history. Taking Gausman out with 2 away was egregious, as was bringing in Mayza, when Mayza threw the wild pitch, should've IBB'd Santana and went after Kelenic or Moore if they were to pinch hit. Tapia in over JBJ egregious and cost them, the bloop hit/collision was s*** luck as it was one of those no man zone hits... could Springer have caught that ball, who knows, I find it highly unlikely Bo could hear Springer calling him off. Schneids had been running this team well up until last night, dude went full Montoyo. Can't believe they blew an 8-1 lead with 10 outs to go... So much pain and despair last night, it's going to take awhile to get over that ball game, if ever. Stung.

I am still mad tapia was not replaced , that alone we most likely win. Inexcusable imo
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Also tapia getting 500 PAs , and then costing us with his D, just inexcusable again.

He was replacing Merrifield even though we were up by 7. Made no f***ing sense

You have a defense-first outfielder on the bench, JBJ. The team had a 7 run lead. Merrifield got hit and Schneider decided to take him out. Fine. But you gotta go JBJ there, not Tapia. JBJ has a better glove than Tapia, that is 100% established. You don’t need Tapia’s slightly better bat in there when your team is up by 7 runs.

stigs187 Verified Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Yep, on par with TML choke to BOS. Thoughts on the series and why the Jays lost. 1. Jays would have made $10-15 mil easy per game with the ridiculous gate, concessions and merch revenue. Feel terrible for all the fans paying $90+ per seat for the outer upper 500s, $15/Molson, $10/soda etc., what a waste of cash to feed a mega-woke, corrupt organization like Rogers. 2. Romero was clearly gassed late in the season, yet was pushed harder than ever. 3. Be confident ego-driven Bo will seek to bolt for the $$$. Won’t miss the errors and choking when the chips are down. Could spend that money far more prudently in the bullpen. 4. Tapia is a disaster, low baseball IQ, terrible jumps, below average D, dreadful at the plate. Speed means zip when you can't get on base. Insulting they left this guy in with the season on the line for the final out in a one-run elimination game. Granted, the bench was below average to begin with, given the GM didn’t address any weaknesses at the deadline for a 98% playoff team. 5. Neophyte in-over-his-head manager bringing in family directly over the dugout in PHI during key games late in the playoff push, then conversing during the game, never seen anything like it. Bush league! 6. Immature, cocky country-club atmosphere where players party in the dugout over meaningless runs vs 90+ loss teams. No focus or professionalism, or hatred of losing. Not hard to predict these egos would fail under pressure. 7. Self-interested jackasses more interested in dancing in an idiotic woke diversity jacket than actually doing what it takes to win. Manager another fluff players’ coach who lets the snowflakes with 0.0 combined career playoff wins run the team. Chapman is the only true pro everyday player. Spring up there, but not reliable for 162 or anywhere close, barely a replacement level at this stage, WAR 4.0. 8. Would it be too much to ask the franchise player 1st baseman to show up to training camp less than 75 lbs overweight in his early 20s? How is this even possible? Sets a terrible precedent for other guys when the supposed “leader” is a lazy 1B who DH’s 1/4 the season and can't create an infield hit to save his life. 9. How does a guy born in Canada, growing up in Montreal and LA, still need a translator at age 23 for softball questions with a required 150-word vocabulary? 10. Game 2 the worst playoff collapse in MLB since 1928, with epic Schneider managing failures to match, well documented here. Evidently Montoya wasn’t the real problem at all, just too nice a guy, let the chokers walk all over him. 11. Atkins & Shapiro are career failures who were handed an All-Star Jays roster after years of running Indians teams into the ground in the pathetically weak AL Central. 12. But who are we kidding, woke, PC, soulless Rogers is far too corrupt and drowning in their own woke propaganda (and vomit) to ever do the right thing. Jays should be a top-flight team every year with their $15+ billion annual revenue funding their woke machine, but they operate the Jays like a mid-tier club at best. Cheap. 13. Fans would be wise to vote with their wallets in 2023, and adopt a SHOW ME attitude. 14. At least MLB isn’t giving the Jays the equivalent of 162-game road seasons like they did in 2020 and most of 2021. Guess we should be content the Trudeau regime finally after 3 years lets the Jays compete on a level playing field with the 29 US franchises. Hope the lockdowns were worth it!
