I’m not sure if I see teo or gurriel getting traded. Even if springer moves to RF, I don’t see a true regular everyday CF on the roster (merrifield got like 8 starts there for KC this year) and a good defensive CF who can hit will not be available in FA and is expensive to trade for. Montgomery got Bader for example which is a pretty steep price.

Not only that but we will need the at bats in the outfield anyway. Springer doesn’t play a lot.

I think if we wanted to trade teo or gurriel, we’d need to make a bigger trade first to get a true CF. Possibly using Moreno or Jansen.

Definitely need a proper CF, Bader would have been nice. Someone like that is what we should be looking for over the next year or 2. That’s the biggest hole on the team IMO

A lot of wishful thinking here man. Why would we trade Tapia and who's our 4th OFer if we do (assuming your plan to trade Teo happens).I also don't see us upgrading 2nd base. Espinal/Biggio/Merrifield are perfectly fine there. CF is going to be a tough one to fill and while I agree moving Springer to RF is the best option, I'm not confident it will happen this offseason. I could definitely see them keeping Teo/Lourdes/Springer/Merrifield/Tapia for another year and just manage the s*** out of Springer's time in CF through the DH position.

It is a hypothetical, so obviously I am going to be wishful. Just be glad, I didn't say we should sign Trea Turner and move Bo to 2nd.

They are more or less going to run the exact same setup next year. We'll once again run into no appreciable slot to get a good LHB in, regularly/consistently.

The only bat would be Josh Bell who is a FA next year and I don't think Padres extend him due to everyone else, but that removes our 'using-DH-as-a-spot-to-rest-people-in' capability.

While I understand the whole reasoning, I just kinda wish the person we are putting on field, such that our good players can DH as a mini-rest, is capable of producing to the level of putting a true DH + the good player on the field.

I.e. Bell (DH) + Springer (OF) v. Springer (DH) + Tapia (OF)

A true CF will be looked at in 2024, not 2023 for sure. But I don't want to break Springer either since I rather keep him productive until 2026. The earlier he is moved, the better it'll be.

Sure Tapia doesn't need to be traded (not like we get much, I was just trying to draw up a 13-man position player/26).

I feel like that’s something you would very rarely see any Ray do.

How come teams like the rays can get guys to almost always play to the odds and we have to let guys do sub optimal things to inspire them? What’s up with that?

I’m so nuts… I want the jays to always try to win instead of doing dumb s*** to placate players’ egos. What an outrageous request!

Be happy with stupid s*** or become a rays fan is quite the choice.

They are the gold standard on how to do basically everything. So yes, I compare things to them.

Holy s*** dude enough with the constant Rays worship. Rays don't swing at bad pitches like the Jays do, Rays have perfect in game strategy while the Jays are dumb f***s, Rays are right to be ruthless while the Jays management are little bitches that bend over backwards to placate players egos, Rays have the worlds best pitching development while the Jays couldn't develop a pitcher to save their lives, ex-Rays management are the only qualified people do be a team's general manager, teams should trade their best players at peak value like the Rays etc. etc. etc.

I agree that we can commend the Rays for what they are able to achieve on a very limited budget, but I really don't think the way that they operate is good for their fans or baseball as a whole. The Blue Jays team isn't perfect and aren't a world series favorite this year, but how many championships have the Rays won in their history? Oh right, they have won a grand total of zero championships. This is far from baseball's model franchise and really aren't deserving of the constant adulation.

f*** off. Seriously, I can’t deal with this constant ******** from fan boys.

Generally, the Rays do things really well so it makes sense to compare things we do to them. If you want to strip all nuance from anything I say and present it in that manner, then f*** off.

These arguments are always so f***ing dumb. Yes, swing away 3-0 one on nobody out with a pitcher who can’t find the zone and with an umpire who is calling a true tight zone because we are ‘aggressive’ and we have to do that to keep our guys happy. That’s dumb team s***. If we are willingly doing dumb team s***, I’ll compare us to a smart team if I f***ing want to.

It’s probably just dumb manager s***. I doubt our front office was super happy with that decision.

Also, if you strip away the slant from what you are saying lol…

Is Rays pitching dev better? Yes.

Do the Rays have better in game strategy? Yes.

Do the best franchises in baseball tend to hire ex Rays guys? Yes.

Those things are all f***ing true. How are you arguing against things that are true? You hate truth?

Trading guys at peak value is nuanced. If it’s Danny jansen, yes. If it’s vlad, no. It’s not just the rays that do that.

If we are doing dumb s***, I’m going to say ‘let’s not do dumb s***, let’s do smart s***, like the rays’.

I’ll tell you what though, I’ll sub in the astros just for you.

You honestly have some of the worst self awareness I think I've been witness to by having the gall to call anybody else a cheerleader or fanboy. Look in a mirror, the posts I quoted above are exactly the type of posts that a true fanboy makes. I don't know if you noticed but this is the BLUE JAYS message board, not the Rays message board. The constant fawning and cheerleading for the Rays is getting seriously f***ing old. We all get it by now, you absolutely adore the Rays and think that no other team in the universe is as worth of your adoration. We don't need to hear about how great the Rays are every time a Blue Jays hitter swings at a bad pitch. We don't need to hear about how awesome the Rays are every time they trade a player before they get paid in arbitration. We don't need to hear you fawning over Rays management every time you don't like a trade the front office makes. We don't need to hear you slobbering over the Rays pitching development every time a Blue Jays bullpen member allows a run or two.

WE ALREADY GET THE MESSAGE! Do you honestly think anyone on the BLUE JAYS message board appreciates somebody primping and preening over the Rays every time a Blue Jays player makes some sort of mistake in the field? The Jays aren't a perfect team, and are made up of real world individuals who sometimes make poor decisions in the heat of the moment. Guess what, despite your constant proclamations to the contrary the Rays make mistakes on the field too.

I mean, if I was the kind of f***ing mental midget where that bothered me, I’d be kind of pissed i guess.

I don’t consider it cheerleading to point out things that are true. I’m sorry it offended you.

I’ll regulate what true things I say in future. Sorry about that.

It's not my fault if you are too dense to understand why a member of a different team's message board would get sick and tired of somebody constantly cheerleading about how awesome one of their main competitors is. If this finally gets you to shut the f*** up once and for all about how awesome the Rays are I'll happily take the win.

Dude, if I have it in my power to make one pathetic little mental midget out there happy, you know what… that’s what I want to do. I feel like I’m putting good out into the world. I’ll do it just for you. It’s a pretty small ask, and I feel like you need this one.

Oh thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's great to see that there's still so much good in the world, it's really needed in these dark times.
