Finally a W.

4 runs on 14 hits lol

I don't get this train of thought, getting hits are good? What am I missing here? No dingers?

Vladdy should worry less about the bucket drop and maybe reflect back on his game tonight.

Time to get serious kid.

Gurriel to the two spot in the batting order......now.

You know they won't and when he starts to cool off (hopefully not) then they will try it and after 1 or 2 games go nope

I really do not get this idea that you cannot both have fun and play well. They're not mutually exclusive. And Vladdy has clearly been a kid having fun for his entire baseball playing career and he's been STELLAR. I hardly think the way to break a slump is to change what got you to this point.

What you say is true, but its hard from a fan's perspective to watch a guy like him who oozes talent take absolutley horrible cuts at the plate, look completely lost (last night was just... wtf) make mental errors in the field (the 1b missed bag...wtf?!) and be all smiley and goofy in the dugout afterwards. It give's the impression that he doesnt care. It gives the impression that he's totally okay with being utter s*** for games at a time, costing the Jays runs and possibly wins, as long as he's having fun. That's not what a fan wants to see.

Now that of course likely isnt true, you dont get to the level of any sport he's at without caring.

On the flip side it's also incredibly cringey what Sale did the other day in the minors, trashing the clubhouse after pitching like crap. But, at least that kind of reaction fans can understand and somewhat relate to, given we've all had days at work where we come home and want to smash the s*** out of something. We probably don't, but we can understand the feeling and relate. People can't relate to the "ho hum, it's fine even though i sucked today and yesterday and the day before, and have lost 8 out of 9 games."

Fans need to realize that everyone deals with stress and pressure in different ways and no one way is 'correct'. It's like folks who laugh or crack jokes at funerals. For some - trying to be super serious during a 'slump' would only extend and make matters worse. If Vlad knows he (and perhaps other teammates) plays better when he plays loose and has fun - then you keep doing that. Of course if he hasn't tried the alternative and isn't taking it seriously, that's an issue, but I have no idea how a fan would know that.

Youre right, they dont know, which is why all they can go on is what they see. I, for one, would love to see Vlad come up to the plate, stare down the pitcher and show a little more intensity from time to time. Doesnt have to be every AB or even every game. But when Vlad got fired up during that bench clearing incident, that's the kind of intensity i want to see at the plate every one in a while.

When Vladdy said not to challenge and Charlie did it anyway (he has the final say; the umpire listens to the manager, not the background or video relay room), Vladdy was pretty stand-offish for the remainder of the half inning towards the dugout/coaches.

He threw a mini-tantrum basically. He threw the ball away in disgust initially, then obviously chirped at them with arm gestures and words after the subsequent play (tag at 1B) didn't go in their favor when it should've (no challenge left).

Our broadcast: Vladdy knows what happened (he was there) and dugout should've listened to him. We could've used that challenge on two plays since, but here we are.

Phillies broadcast: Vlad should've been taken out. I understand his frustration but you do not show up your coaching staff. Rob Thompson would've taken him out and benched him for that attitude.

I don't know who is right - do you discipline the young guy for throwing the tantrum or do you accept that you f***ed up and let his ego ride for a bit?

Martinez and Schneider both went and talked to him in the dugout, Charlie didn't.

I missed all that nonsense but to comment on how it should have been handled:

While Vlad has a right to be frustrated they still have to look and if they think something is awry they’re going to challenge it. Team has been top 10 in successful challenges this season, it’s a management call not a player’s. the player cannot be bigger than the team. I’d have no qualms with them meting out some sort of internal disciplinary action and if that’s a game on the bench then so be it.

This is pretty telling IMO. Charlie is a spineless bitch with no control of the clubhouse.

Vlad just needs some time off from the game. I wish he just said no to the ASG and straight up rested and got his mind back into the game.

I suppose you want the accolade though that you are an AS. Not sure if it gets removed should you say 'no' to attending (since they seem to replace the people that aren't attending).

He's trying but a lot of stuff isn't going his way; dude just needs a mini vacation.

And still carries a 129 wRC+ despite his clear struggles. He has very high expectations and he’s underperforming, getting in his own head too much. Same with Bo.

These guys have hit their “sophomore slump” it has just come a bit later. They’ll both pull through

Right and the players are wrong about this stuff all the time.
