Maine Jays Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Rodon, Robertson, and Happ would be my dream scenario.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Moreno + some arm for both? I would do this trade, but I dont think the Tigers would. 2 young LHP's established in the bigs, Soto controllable to 2025 and Skubal to 2026. Skubal being the main piece. if I was the Jays I wouldbe on the phone seeing if you can work something out.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Rodon, Robertson, and Happ would be my dream scenario. My realistic wishlist is: Pederson, Smyly, and Trivino. Smyly gives us SP depth and a lefty out of the pen in the playoffs. Pederson gives us a potent lefty bat that can replace Zimmer. Trivino is a project, but adds velocity and strikeouts to the back of the bullpen. Those 3 cover our weaknesses at a reasonable price. If there's a big ticket reliever out there for a reasonable price then I'm all for it as well.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Moreno + some arm for both? Am I missing something with Soto? Just seems like a dime-a-dozen high velo fastball/slider reliever who you wouldn't really trust not to implode in a big spot.

IDK Skubal is pretty decent, but feels like Moreno should only be on the table for Soto/Ohtani level of talents.

Giants lost Estrada yesterday, so I think they have to be in sell mode with the latest spiral they're in. I like your idea of adding a lefty starter for depth purposes and using them for the BP after. Smyly can be a guy for sure if the Jays went that route. Even Alex Wood from San Fran would be a better target IMO.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Hearing two things today on chatter… 1. If Jays and Tigers do a trade it won’t be announced until after 7th inning onwards to not affect the players in the current game! 2. Morosi has indicated that this could be the wildest last minute trade deadline in history as all teams are waiting for buyers/sellers to blink as buyers are trying to avoid overpaying. Last 3-4 hours of trade deadline could by crazy!

PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Not sure to be honest??? one would think it probably has to do with switching teams and letting them know before the game is over versus having them already left on team bus. Nothing imminent on any trades just a comment I read somewhere.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Shulman today "Only the Astros have too much starting pitching. Nice problem to have..."
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 That would cost us one of our top two prospects and an MLB player (Biggio or Jansen).

Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I don’t get why teams care about control in relief pitching. I get caring about having optionable guys but I don’t care that much about control. Soto probably flames out or isn’t that good before that anyway. Also, if I’m doing a trade for skubal, anyone else is a throw in. I’m not getting to Moreno by adding in Soto. That’s a classic way to get ripped off. Keep your ‘controllable’ relief and let’s just negotiate on the starter.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I still think a guy like Mahle shoud be the #1 target for SPs.. The reason being, I think if you were willing to eat a Moose or something, which we have the $ to do, you can get a pitcher a little cheaper vs a club like the Nationals who said no discounts for bad/large contracts etc..

Mahle is not vaccinated; Quintana/Syndegaard prolly the better shots.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Montas would have been nice but if Morosi is linking him to the Blue Jays it must not be a real rumour. He always seems almost inappropriately Jays biased
Blazeit420 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Wouldn't mind shifting from Montas to Puk from the A's. Would be a nice lefty out of the pen.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Frankie Montas I feel is going to just cost way to much. He takes your top prospects and comes without the control. I don’t see the Jays making that trade.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 The Blue Jays are in the mix for Pirates starter Jose Quintana, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, along with such previously-reported suitors as the Yankees and White Sox. The veteran left-hander is having a bounce-back season after struggling in 2019-21, and Quintana could help bolster an inconsistent Toronto rotation. Pirates GM Ben Cherington previously worked in the Jays’ front office, so this familiarity with the AL East side’s prospects could help the Blue Jays in the bidding, though the two sides haven’t completed a player-for-player trade in the two-plus years since Cherington went to Pittsburgh

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I'm really surprised the Jays haven't made a trade for at least 1 bullpen arm yet.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Basically 2 days left, still early relatively.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Yes to Puk. I think 5-6 teams are all making a strong push for Soto and with him being a lifetime # 1 talent that comes along at age 23 the nationals have told these 5-6 teams they are evaluating offers and will make a decision by noon tomorrow out of respect for the 5 teams that do not get Soto they still have a few hours to complete fallback trades. I really really think GM's are saying 2.5 years of Soto (playoff caliber in next 2 years) are really taking a serious look at this opportunity and it is holding up everything else until the rest of the dominos fall. The Jays could be one of those teams and it would cost us our #1 prospect Moreno, Gurriel (Free up outfield log-jam and Nationals will want a good Outfielder back for 2 years), Pearson, and our the #1 pitching prospect Tiedemann. Atkins has said they will always trade for once in a lifetime talent if it will supplement the Blue Jays core so who knows??? I doubt the Jays will be the winners in this though...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Yes to Puk. He isn't vaccinated either, lol.

Makes sense, I didn't know Atkins has said that publicly, well not recently... anyhow teams will have another day to move on to their plan B's and C's, deadline is Tuesday at 6PM EST.
