They'll just add him to the 40 later this season or after the WS to avoid the Rule 5, zero reason they won't.

Yeah, zero change the expose Zulu to the rule 5...

This move is baffling, I just don't see how we don't have at least 10 guys in the minors who could be just as effective as Romo (meaning, not super effective...)

They do, I don't get it either. Copious amounts of s***'s pants moments coming right up. :P

The only thing I can think of is the Jays want to abuse Romo's old arm rather than abuse the arm of guys they have in the minors. Otherwise it's as Laika says, the Jays actually think Romo might be better then the stuff in the minors.

I hope they're right, but I strongly suspect that they are wrong.

And so it begins... lol

I hate this acquisition based on the beard alone. Looks like a homeless guy from somewhere downtown

Yep, I'd rather see any of Spraker, Eisert or Hernandez but the Jays front office doesn't seem to be in a rush to bring these guys up I guess. Handling them with kid gloves for some reason.

I don't think this is anything other than a guy that will come in when the game is lopsided in favour of either team, to eat some outs and save better arms for higher leverage.

If the Jays are leading by 2-3 in the 8th inning tonight, Romo will be in. Charlie sees vetrins and gets giddy.

100%

I said it before, I fully expect Romo to blow 2 games this week vs the Redsox/Rays

I already hated it when a close game gets to the bullpens against Tampa

Will be worse than ever now...

I really hate this move. It's like the front office looked at his 86mph fastball and upper 4's xFIP the last 4 years and said "Man, I gotta get me some of that!". At least sign someone who could be tweaked to find something.

It's obvious Atkins is merely attracted by the name recognition.

I dont, I hope they are wrong because if the Jays actually think Romo might be better then the stuff in the minors, then our farm system is in big trouble.

Will homeless Romo be activated today? Will he blow the game against the Sox? Tune in to find out.

I like Romo. I know the stats of late do not support it, however he has pitched in big games and gotten outs. Hopefully he can be serviceable in the 6/7th innings. No way should he be in the 7/8 in a tight game unless others are down for the day.

Toronto Blue Jays

@BlueJays

OFFICIAL: We've signed RHP Sergio Romo to a one-year contract. Welcome, @SergioRomo54!

Additionally, RHP Shaun Anderson has been optioned to Triple-A and LHP Tayler Saucedo has been transferred to the 60-day IL.

His Statcast page has been good all the way through last year. There's no dropoff in his velocity. The only thing I really see is that his slider usage is down. If the Jays have him crank that back up perhaps he can be a 4.00 ERA type of guy which will work as a 6th inning reliever. That's about the best I can say for the signing.

What's the worst you could say?

That he looks like he should be strapping on a suicide vest in a market in Kabul?
