Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 This team is looking like it has an Angels type losing streak in them right now. Can’t score and the pitching is horrendous. Nah its just the Yankees bro. They’re unbeatable right now. Jays are still good
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 79-86 down the middle.....shocked we aren't down 10. Need to replace Cimber as well
Acemeister79 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Can Gurriel be any f***ing slower to get a jump on hits or actually run to them? He's got to be part of a trade bait package...
InvincibleTiger Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 This team isn't going anywhere until the bullpen is addressed...overhauled
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Yankees are a juggernaut. Very little times where it felt like the Jays actually had a chance to win a game this series. They just ran through the Rays too. They're firing on all cylinders right now.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Yankees $70M more for players does make a difference. The difference is Yankees pitching dev and design is absolutely Uber elite and we are like above average at best. They could spend 70m less and still have a low 90s projected win team every year. They are amazing at pitching development. We aren’t. I absolutely believe in the talent of our hitters and I think they are good enough for a few playoff runs. I think this is a good front office. However, they’ve been in charge for 6 years and we are still behind tons of teams when it comes to this. Where are our bullpen success stories? Where are the guys who learned a new pitch and are lights out? How come whenever I hear a smart baseball dude talk about pitching dev they NEVER mention us? I consume a lot of fantasy related stuff and the smart guys in that field talk about the rays, Yankees, astros, mariners and never us. It’s been 6 years. Maybe this is changing behind the scenes and it takes a few years. Also, even good pitching dev teams have off bullpen years. But it’s every year with us. We suck at this aspect of the game.

Generally I agree, but they have had a couple success stories. Romano, Ray, Manoah, Mayza somewhat… There’s been way more failures though. Borucki, Thornton, Pearson, Zeuch, etc
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 I suppose, but that 10-2 pounding by the Orioles leading into this series didnÂ’t help. Hard to be confident when Gausman is struggling and every Kikuchi start is basically an automatic loss. In the back of my mind I just wonder if he's injured... Maybe the splitter just isn't breaking the same as it was earlier. Seems so weird that he went from untouchable to getting knocked around so quickly.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Bring up the next SP/RP....oh wait Pearson blew his arm off today
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Yea, the pen is an issue. However, the pen and it’s quality/sustainability also had a symbiotic relationship with the Starters. 4ip, 3.2, 2.1, 4, IPs by SPs in the past week has a lot to do with it…
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Wow, big time suckage here Castillo
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Generally I agree, but they have had a couple success stories. Romano, Ray, Manoah, Mayza somewhat… There’s been way more failures though. Borucki, Thornton, Pearson, Zeuch, etc We’ve had some but every team has some. It’s more that other teams seem to be able to put together 6-8 guys who all throw either hard or funky, and they can reliably teach guys different pitches. I don’t necessarily think Pearson is a failure, it’s mostly injuries. Zeuch wasn’t talented imo. The problem is we have to hang onto the duds way too long because we don’t have anyone else coming. At the trade deadline, we make brad hand deals where the upside is just getting his mojo back instead of Holmes like deals where we identify hidden upside. I don’t know… it’s all really tired and average and nowhere near cutting edge. I look at the mariners with absolute jealousy and they turned it around in that area REALLY quickly. It’s been 6 years.
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 He's probably going to have to throw 50+ and then get sent down after the game

Romano, Ray, Manoah, Mayza somewhat… There’s been way more failures though. Borucki, Thornton, Pearson, Zeuch, etc Pearson has been the only failure of those names and its because of injuries. The rest basically achieved what they would have realistically given what they have to work with imo
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Castillo looks like John Schneider on the bump
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 The Jays run differential has been nuked in 4 games lol.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Castillo first and last MLB game We DFAd another pitcher for him also I believe. Francis I think..,
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 We have a big disadvantage against top tier teams with our current bullpen
leaffie Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 I would like to know what all the experts in mlb saw in the Jays that we just are not seeing. It ranged from easily making the playoffs, to winning the division to making it to WS. Such a disappointment. And I know is only about one third through season, but I dont see much improvement coming. It is not like we have our best out injured. As someone else said, six years and no closer.
InvincibleTiger Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Even the Orioles have a stronger back end of bullpen than us
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Let’s be careful here ; Castillo might be saving his best stuff for later.

I think we are still on pace for low nineties wins? Teams with that true talent win divisions all the time (they get lucky or play above themselves) and teams have won the World Series with less wins than that. So, I don’t think the preseason predictions were that far off.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Even the Orioles have a stronger back end of bullpen than us They are run by Houston guys. Look forward to them having great pitching dev going forward.
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Montoya shrewdly forcing the NY batters to wear out their upper bodies by swinging so hard .
