Laika Community Moderator Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 So Brad Keller is kind of annoyingly effective with his groundball rate. Will be interesting to see if the Jays can get the ball in the air off him. Ostensibly the Jays have some minor groundball and double-play issues. Well, we have one big hitter who has those issues.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 This is the kind of game that looks like a slam dunk win, only to have our offense make Brad Keller look like Bob Feller.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Jansen going to the IL apparently. Luckily the Jays have a great young catching talent in the minors who is already on the 40 man roster that they can bring up. Welcome back, Zack.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 connorp called this last night after Jano kept playing. Not really. Sometimes guys stay in and later on they do an MRI and see some metacarpal tendon doesn’t look right and it’s 4-6 weeks or something. Hopefully not the case here

Yup, Charlie should have removed him from the game right after the HBP
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 connorp called this last night after Jano kept playing. Yeah Charles is a f***ing idiot. Maybe if Jansen comes out of the game he’s only injured for a couple days. Couldn’t have been good to catch multiple 95+ fastballs with a borderline fracture in his hand. Stupid.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Yup, Charlie should have removed him from the game right after the HBP Trainer checked him out and gave him the green light to continue. Tough to put this on Charlie. Pulling him wouldn't have changed the outcome today either.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Trainer checked him out and gave him the green light to continue. Tough to put this on Charlie. It was an 8-0 game… trainer is stupid sure but the manager has final decision.

And it’s not like Terminator said “it’s broken, or it’s not”… hairlines fractures and stuff you’re still going to have range of motion. Gong show trainer-ing

Come on…

Come on… Idk what the SOP is for teams in that scenario. I’d imagine a reporter would bring it up and we’ll get an answer
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I think a manager could probably toss a trainer under the bus if it’s warranted
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Players get taken out of games for precautionary reasons all the time. Chuckles is just too gutless to make these calls. Like the other game Springer hits one off his foot, hobbling around, its 7th inning and something like 8-2 for the Jays, stays in game. Just stupid. Just like hands, a lot of bones in the foot.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Yup, Charlie should have removed him from the game right after the HBP But if Charlie does that we lose the DH, and no big deal in a 8-0 game. But then Charlie uses that as an excuse never to DH the backup catcher for the rest of the season. Jansen took one for the team really. Kirk probably owes him dinner.

Charlie not wanting to play around the DH is f***ing laughable. Its easy enough a monkey could do it. Charlie is dumber than a monkey
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 It was an 8-0 game… trainer is stupid sure but the manager has final decision. Yeah, but the manager is going to make the decision based on the info the trainer gives him. Admitedly I do not know the proper on-field procedure for trying to diagnose a pinky metacarpal fracture, but I bet the trainer does and Jansen would have passed it or he wouldnt have been left in.

This is my biggest remaining complaint with Charlie. He really needs to stop listening to his player's self diagnoses when it comes to potential injury. There was the Giles fiasco, Teoscar with the obvious oblique injury, and now Jansen with a broken bone. It seems that almost all players are going to lobby to stay in the game even when potentially injured, and it's up to the manager to do the thinking on their behalf to avoid further injury.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 The more I see Chuckles making the dumbest decisions ever and watching another game where Tapia AND Zimmer are in the game, makes me despise Atkins more and more.

You seem like the type of guy who would hate his own grandmother so this isn't surprising.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 Would rather see Tapia in CF and Biggio in LF playing over Zimmer.
