Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 I thought Chapman would have a bounce back season after having enough time to heal the hip and being able to play in more hitter friendly parks. Hes not far removed from putting up MVP calibre numbers. This can still happen since we're obviously very early in the season. So why post what you did? It's very obviously early for both players. Does Semien stink?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 I understand offense is down across all of baseball but this lineup doesn't seem as deadly without Semien. We seem very mortal whereas last year it felt like it wasn't fair to other teams (when healthy). I had hoped Chapman could provide 80 to 90% of what Semien did offensively but that may have been unrealistic. We might need to add one big bullpen arm and a top/middle of the order bat near the trade deadline if we want to standout in the playoffs. Just to be clear, you’re talking about the Marcus Semien that plays for the Rangers? The guy currently hitting 176/247/235 with a 46 wRC+?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Players of the Game were... Stripling Springer Katoh...
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Stripling was actually excellent tonight and its too bad we couldn’t take advantage of his unexpectedly good start. I’m annoyed that Wacha keeps f***ing us every time we face him some how
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 So why post what you did? It's very obviously early for both players. Does Semien stink? Because I'm a reactionary fool that freaks out easily lol. All that Jose Ramirez talk got me spoiled thinking we were going to be a historic offensive squad. Then our reality has us relying way too much on Collins and Tapia, which I don't feel is sustainable.

I don’t think any of us are happy with the offense so far, especially Bo and Kirk have been massively disappointing so far. We know they’ll get better. And can’t really complain about overall results, 12-7 is great.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Imagine paying 175 mil for a 46 wRC+ scrub

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 12-7 is awesome. Bullpen showing a few cracks now though, so hopefully that's just just a blip. I wonder, was Merryweather a sticky stuff guy? He looked like a high leverage swing and miss dream at the start of last season. Since he's come back from injury he's been very hittable.

Probably a playoff team without it, and in that regard Chapman was a plus. But it was Plan C from adding Freeman or Ramirez. I think Vladdy would’ve surprised with at least league avg D at 3b. Bo will be fine eventually, and I think you can count on Vlad, Teo, and Springer but factoring injuries (guess would’ve been Springer), you knew the 4th OF would get a ton of ABs. And they downgraded there. Plenty of legit question marks on other guys. Again, still a playoff team but they could’ve gone next level. The herd thought that was Chapman and hasnt been case just yet

The herd thought that was Chapman and hadn’t been case just yet The commercials told me this team is ALREADY NEXT LEVEL Jokes aside, the team is solid and should be able to get to 95ish wins. If not then definitely enough for the last playoff spot. September is gonna be exciting I think.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 let's take a moment to appreciate that Kevin Gausman has 1.4 fWAR already. Leads all pitchers.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Toronto projects to win the division right now and they have playoff calibre top-end SP. Think about this.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Blue Jays look like they're the top team in the AL. Even without Bo, Chapman hitting on all cylinders yet. Their pitching in the postseason will be scary in a short series.

It’s so weird that a few years ago he was WW fodder in fantasy on first stint with Atlanta…demoted to BP Siberia.. than becomes an ace…seems legit but Manoah still has the belt in my eyes until Gausman keeps it up

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 don't look at Semien's slashline lmao I only brought up Semien in comparison to his actual output with us last year. I don't think one person ever gave the Jays a hard time not matching the Rangers contract. It was absolutely insane and the chances Semien replicated the season he had with us seemed far fetched, let alone doing it for 7 years lol.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 You've failed, emphatically. He’s admitting it was a dumb reactionary take, let him off

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Semien laser focussed in 2021. Now that he's got the big contract, maybe not so much? Still it's April, fool's month. He'll be OK.
