max silver Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Disappointing if they have to play 2 on Wednesday. Seems pointless since it does absolutely nothing for either team, and Orioles fans are likely already checked out and won't even come to either game. I guess as mentioned it has to do with tiebreakers with the Cardinals. I know Schneider likes to use a lot of relievers normally, but with the WC round starting on Friday and being three games in a row, the important members of the pen may have to go all 3 games, so wasting them tomorrow in either game would probably not be the best idea. Let White and Kikuchi take it on the chin tomorrow, have them go 100+ pitches regardless of performance. Kikuchi definitely is nowhere close to stretched out enough at this point to handle 100+ pitches, that would be potentially inviting an unnecessary injury. The team will have an extra spot available to bring in another pitcher from the minor leagues, so no need to kill White and/or Kikuchi to cover the innings.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 So have the regulars play game 1, or most of it, and scrubs for the 2nd.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Traditional DH tomorrow, starting at 12:30 Noon.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 (edited) Well that sucks... They should roll out the scrubs both games and force Kikuchi to pitch 18 innings. Edited October 4, 2022 by wilko
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 I'm not too concerned with the important position players playing 1 game tomorrow. My concern is the pitchers. I guess you start White in game 1, use Pop in game 1 and option them both between games(You can still put Pop on the playoff roster despite the option). Recall Merryweather, Gage and Lawrence, 1 of which is the 29th man, along with Kikuchi in game 2. That covers most of the 18 innings you need. If Phelps or Richards has to go an inning each it's not a big deal but please don't use the best pen arms. If the Cardinals win tonight and the games literally become meaningless it would be nice if they just said screw it and cancelled 1 of the games though.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Is Jesse Litsch still with the organization? Call him up for a spot start 😜😂
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Just forfeit both games tomorrow. No point risking injury in two games that mean nothing right before the Wild Card series. The guys still need reps lol, don’t want any rust to settle in. Just give guys their reps and don’t worry about winning
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Is Jesse Litsch still with the organization? Call him up for a spot start if you're gonna do that might as well bring Gustavo Chacin in as well.

Maybe guys like Romano/Bass/Garcia want an inning to keep fresh? If so, you let them. Day off Thursday. Games Friday Saturday MAYBE Sunday. They can go 3 in a row I think. Then you’ll have off days on the Monday and the Wednesday.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Casey Lawrence is going to throw 90 pitches and just eat it no matter how many runs are scored.

If the bolded is indeed true, the Jays can option a few guys, that would get plenty of arms up for the 2nd game, this worries me less.

keggy Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 I want Zimmer to play all 18 innings and pick up the save in Game 2.
philly30 Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 What is the penalty if the jays just say we are not playing two games tomorrow

I'd rather not option guys who haven't been optioned before this season. It's just burning an option year you might need down the road for very little benefit. The 5 guys currently on the roster that have been optioned are White, Pop, Lopez, Moreno, and Biggio. The 3 position players are for sure each playing at least 1 game tomorrow, and you're limited to the number of pitchers you can carry so it's probably only the 2 arms that will go down between games. Kikuchi, Lawrence, Merryweather, and Gage should be enough for game 2 anyway I would think. I'm not burning an option year on say Cimber or Mayza so I can use Thornton for an inning as well.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 What is the penalty if the jays just say we are not playing two games tomorrow They lose any dignity they might have had
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 I don’t think there’s a chance in hell the Jays forfeit games tomorrow. Though I could see both teams deciding to just play 1 and leave it at that
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 You can't forfeit games, lmao, is this amateur hour??? Blue Jays - *We don't want to play tomorrow* Orioles and MLB - *Go f*** yourself!!!*
philly30 Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 You can't forfeit games, lmao, is this amateur hour??? Sure you can, you say we are not playing, but I would assume there is a real penalty not just loss of diginity
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 The fact they scheduled a double header instead of just canceling one of the games is so f***ing stupid lol.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 The fact they scheduled a double header instead of just canceling one of the games is so f***ing stupid lol. From the teams' perspectives, yes. From MLB as a business, there might be some ticket refunding implications that they do not want to get into.

Thanks, Captain Obvious... lol... damn right there's gate and other penalties if a team doesn't show up, these guys are f***ed.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 It so happens that only 1 team has deliberately forfeited a game, coincidentally the Baltimore Orioles in 1977, against th Blue Jays no less. Time to repay the favour.

Time to repay the favour. Why did they forfeit, and what were the repercussions? I bet that caused a change in MLB hierarchy.
