Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 September and October sound good.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Bo won MLB player of the week, obviously. That guy on the Angels had a pretty good week too.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Dammm. Add to that Berrios has mostly been crap and the 5th rotation spot has been a dumpster fire all year, its amazing the jays have their current record
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Big Day today! Its been a hell of a nice run - but George and Vlad need to start driving in some runs to sustain it. So many of the ABs with RISP have been weak. Bo won't keep up this blistering pace forever, and others have to step up to backfill when he cools down a bit.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Looks like we're starting with our bullpen game first
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 All 3 AL wild card teams have 61 losses and a run differential between +62 and +68 So tight in the standings and potential tiebreakers
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 so bullpen game? 1 of them was gonna have to be. I guess they’re going with the first game
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Last doubleheader, they took Gausman. This doubleheader, they are taking Manoah. f*** the Rays.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I'll assume if Manoah can't go game 2, Stripling will go 3-5 innings
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Little doubt the big guy will be out there for Game 2. He's a warrior. Just hope he can battle through it.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I'll assume if Manoah can't go game 2, Stripling will go 3-5 innings Only other alternative is a bullpen game followed by a Mitch White start. I'll gladly take your option instead.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Id thought they would move White up to Game 1 They probably are as the bulk guy after Julian
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I'd feel perfectly happy if we manage a split today with all this going on

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Not trailing, were tied. sorry - I see the minor nuance now. It's still really stupid and you should feel shame for posting such nonsense.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 (edited) sorry - I see the minor nuance now. It's still really stupid and you should feel shame for posting such nonsense. Why? Its a very specific stat but doesn't oversell how unclutch he has been. Like he did not hit a single solo HR (at the minimum, not counting any RISP situations) in any game where the Jays were trailing with at least one out to his name (6th and on) over the full season. When was the last time you saw Vlad at plate, in a game-defining instance, and felt like damage was about to be done? Seemingly, that was last year. These days its a blessing in disguise if he doesn't GIDP with RISP Edited September 13, 2022 by Solaxys
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 This is damning. The anti-clutch gene in full force this season.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Vladdy clutch in 2021, unclutch in 2022. Did he get a brain transplant?
Floortom Verified Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 This is damning. The anti-clutch gene in full force this season. Maybe it's confirmation bias but I cant think of a clutch hit by Vladdy all season. I have no problem remembering clutch hits from Bo, Springer, Chapman, Teo, Lourdes, etc.

I have no problem remembering clutch hits from Bo, Springer, Chapman, Teo, Lourdes, etc. He had the 3 HR Cole game, he had the walkoff single against Bautista/Os (the Sox one was a groundball that found a hole), and the ChiSox game where he took the lead for us in the 10th/11th with a ringing single. Those are the big ones (I recall) where he had a lot of impact (through the bat) for winning the game.

The other two that you mentioned sure - as I said perhaps some confirmation bias.

I have no problem remembering clutch hits from Bo, Springer, Chapman, Teo, Lourdes, etc. The only ones I remember are: - that Yankees game he hit 3 homers - walk off single vs the Os in extras - that double he hit in extras and Teo went on to walk it off That’s all his clutch hitting this year

Same with Gurriel before his injury.
jerb Verified Member Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Ethan Diamandas @EthanDiamandas Since August 1, no qualified batter has hit more ground balls with RISP than Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (78.1%). A trend -- or mechanical flaw, perhaps -- that's been tough for Vlad to break this season. #BlueJays
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Vladdy clutch in 2021, unclutch in 2022. Did he get a brain transplant? Exactly. Clutch isn't a thing. This BS about how many times he's had a hit to tie or take the lead in the 6th inning or later is some made up BS stat. I'm fairly sure if you could track this stat, you'd find these numbers vary widely from year to year for all the best hitters in baseball. It's not a skill that you can see a player is working on and improving year after year.
