Tapia as your 5 hitter now that's a dangerous lineup! At least I don't see Zimmer on there anywhere, please hurry back Teoscar. Does he really need a handful of games at Triple AAA I'm sure he remembers how to swing a bat.

That's not how rehab assignments work, though? If Charlie's so worried about left/right Ab's at least swap Collins, Tapia should be hitting 9th.

Jays are presently 20th in the league in runs per game. Can we now, at last talk about an actual slumping Jays squad without simply dismissing it by stating that runs are down across the league. Yes, they may be, but the Jays are 20th in that low scoring league.

I really hope that Hernandez's return offers the much needed boost to this lineup. Right now, the Jays are producing at a rate that is below average across the league.

We may have to come to terms with the fact that the Jays are no longer that powerhouse offense they were last year. The loss of Semien's production's last year I think will be felt. I really do not care what Semien is doing this year, but it is true that this year's squad is going to find it difficult to replace the numbers he put up last year.

Vladdy, Bo and Hernandez had incredible offensive numbers last season, is it possible they do not replicate those numbers? Seems to me that everything has to go right for that to happen and the likelihood is rather slim.

Kirk, Chapman, Espinal may find their way and become more consistent at the plate, but if they do not all become more consistent hitters, the bottom of the lineup will have holes.

I actually think Gurriel will match his production from last year, he is a streaky batter and will find a way to produce much like he did last season.

No one on the bench really seems to be a factor. In short, the team will suffer anytime there is an injury. We have seen it with Hernandez gone and sadly may see it again during the long season.

I realize that having Springer in the lineup for an entire year is a HUGE advantage this season, but not sure that it can counter-balance all of the questions moving forward.

I know it is early, I know!, but my expectations for this offense has dropped. I have come to terms with the fact that it will not produce like it did last year. Yes, it will be a very good offense but it will not be as productive as last year's team.

On the positive side, I do think the defense has improved and hope that the pitching may also be improved. But the Jays will not be that team with the scariest lineup in baseball this year, they will have to win in different ways.

Possibly this entire rant is triggered by watching too many damn games where the Jays have scored one or two runs but I do think maybe just maybe we need to dampen our expectations in regards to this offense. At least I am going to do it. I thought the Jays would have the best lineup in the American League, I no longer think that is the case. I hope they prove me wrong, but A LOT of things will have to go right for that to happen and I just don't see it all falling into place for the Jays way right now.

I was with you until there. Extreme overreaction. Pretty sure the Yankees were whining about their offense sucking at times last year, maybe even earlier this season.

Its a slump that’s being magnified because we’re missing Teo and its at the beginning of the year.

Offense is still comfortably top 10, maybe top 5.

I don’t give a s*** what the sabr nerds here say that haven’t played baseball, Vlad will benefit from Teo back. When you’re playing grass roots baseball, you know who is coming up behind you. Even when you’re the parent watching the game, you know is coming up in the order and who is the best shot to bring runs home. I doubt in changes at higher levels.

Vlad will be fine. Putting too much on his shoulders. Teo has been basically been the guy that this board was willing to trade for backend SP until maybe last year. I’ve been a believer and think he’ll continue being Teo. Bo will be a lot better than he is now. He may need further growth, we’ll see. Springer is Spinger. Lots of other question marks though

Stating what I think is obvious. Teo coming back helps. But we did play half of last year without Springer. This offence needs an impact LHH(s). I look at the balance in the attack teams like Houston has. Makes them harder to pitch to. I don't think for a second this O is bad and I don't think this RISP dreadful state will continue. It's a great offence. But we do have some approach holes and are too RHH heavy when you face the rotations and pens we do.

Needed Freddie. Vlad would be playing league average D at 3b

Springer

Bo

FF

Vlad

Teo

Could fap to that for long time. That’s why I was so disappointed in the Chapman audible

This s*** is so stupid. This has nothing to do with being a saber nerd. What f***ing reason is there for teams not to pitch Vlad as tough as possible?

Vlad's on base percentage was .400 last year. It is around .350 this year. If the idea is to keep him off base for Teo... then they will pitch him the same way they are now, because it's effective.

Your the one who is acting like you've never played. On every team, at every level, they don't give into guys who swing at border line pitches. Right now they don't give a f*** if Teo is behind Vlad or not. They're pitching him tough and will continue that, until he takes those pitches (and gets favourable calls) and gets himself into hitters counts consistently. No way they change until Vlad forces them to change by being a bit more patient. It has nothing to do with Hernandez behind him.

I mean, there’s nothing in there that negates my logic if you put some thought into it.

The point being Vlad will be more willing to take the walk and put trust in Teo behind him. Pretty simple but guess you needed spelling out

When you’re followed by sub .600 guys most nights, you’re going to press if you’re the star player. Try to put some out etc. expand your zone a bit

Other sports really same thing. Star basketball player has someone else really good go down on the team, defense zeroes in on him, do you press the issue or take what the D gives you and involve your teammates more. Same philosophy

Of course the offense is top 10. But I thought the offense last year was one of the scariest in the league. My point is that I do not think that this year's team will put up the same offensive numbers as last year's team. There was a lot of hype about the offense coming into this season. I just think that much of that hype is undeserved. There was a suggestion that this year's team would be better offensively than they were last year and I don't think they will be.

Last year's team was first in the majors in BOTH SLG and OPS. Do you really think the Jays this year will be that productive?

Fun Fact: Last season the Jays had a 2nd best wRC+ of 112 in the MLB, this season they have a wRC+ of 105... no need to panic man, it's May the 4th be with you.

You are overreacting to a large degree based on some early season struggles. The team has played all of 25 games and faced a ton of high velocity good quality pitching with a quarter of their games coming against the Yankees who look to have one of baseball's best pitching staffs up to this point. They haven't had much of a chance to pad their stats vs the lesser teams of baseball either. I recently posted some statistics comparing last year's offence to this year's offence, and outside of RISP leading to a little less scoring this year's team is off to a better start in almost all relevant categories. Up to this point last season the offence had a collective 80'ish WRC+ compared to 110 WRC+ for this year's team. If you believe that this collection of hitters is going to continue to hit below .200 with RISP for the entire season then sure this offence is going to flounder all year, but I think there are simply far too many talented hitters with reinforcements on the way soon as well.

Baseball is one tough business. Highs for Katoh and then this. I hope he gets picked up and gets more MLB time.

This is an A-1 post. 100% agreement. Soto works counts and takes his BBs. Vlad will have to too.
