Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker arrested on DUI charges

Mark Polishuk, MLB Trade Rumors 59 mins ago

Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker was arrested Friday morning on charges of speeding and driving under the influence, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. (WFLA’s Nathaniel Rodriguez broke the news.) Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling adds that Walker was released on a $500 bond later that morning, and that he will make a statement to media following the Jays’ game with the Yankees this afternoon.

So, this means that Walker will not be hired by any team as a manager for a while. If the Jays don't fire him, he's our forever!

I mean the White Sox hired Tony LaRussa after his second DUI, so I don't think this would preclude some teams from wanting him.

I assume everyone who wants Walker fired or suspended would feel the same for a friend or a sibling of yours?....

Maybe some counselling will be required and move on from there. This is coming from a guy that alcoholism ran through my family and been a tea-totaller for most of my adult life!

Please don't fire him

Brief PR-required suspension only

This administration has shown willingness to forgive relatively minor infractions such as the homophobic slur and McGuire parking lot incident (not attempting to downplay the dangers of drunk driving here). I think as long as Walker displays appropriate levels of remorse and agrees to make amends all will be forgiven.

Agreed

Not really any chance they fire him

I didn't realize that was his second. But, IMO, LaRussa is a HOF manager, and Walker never has before. Two different scenarios.

Who are you even talking about? Seems like you completely pulled that one out of your ass, as I see no one making that argument except a couple of random on twitter.

I’m his defense there was at least one person here that said it warranted being fired. Not everyone likes direct confrontation lol

You need to read that statement again. "Everyone who wants Walker fired" he was referring to a group of people, those who want Walker fired, asking if they would feel the same if it was someone they knew personally, not saying "Everyone wants Walker fired"

I know what he said. I just bolded the relevant part. I’ve just seen very, very few people actually saying he should be fired. So I was wondering who caused him to make that comment to begin with.

Literally nobody in this thread has called for Walker to be fired. That was indeed an odd post.

The subject spanned multiple threads. It was said.

Haven't see it. Unless you are referring to the one person (Masterbather) that said wouldn't be surprised if Walker is let go. That's not calling for him to be fired.

“Yeah, I have no patience for this type of ********. I don't know what the Jays will do, but I won't blame them if they cut him loose.”

I’m sorry the words aren’t exactly what you want them to be, but this is clearly someone that finds it a termination worthy offense. What the Bluejays may or may not do wasn’t what the OP on the subject alluded to. Try to white knight somewhere else

Easy not guilty verdict on this one. Be better, c-pee.

Throw the book at him.

I agree. I'd suspend him for the next 2 spring training games followed by a club-friendly 2 year extension. That'll teach him.

Walker’s statement:

“There was a traffic incident on Thursday night that I was involved in. Obviously, I'm very apologetic to the Blue Jay organization, Blue Jays fans, and my family,” Walker said in a statement Saturday afternoon. “It’s something that I'm working through with my attorney to get resolution to right now. Obviously, my apologies to my three daughters as well. Right now we're working through it with my attorney for a resolution in this. And that's the only comment I'll have right now.”

An arrest affidavit obtained by Sportsnet alleged Walker was stopped at approximately 12:06 a.m. ET Friday morning near County Road 611 and Curlew Road in Oldsmar, Fla. after being clocked on a radar gun driving 82 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The affidavit says Walker refused a breath alcohol content test but showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. A deputy reported that Walker “admitted to drinking four beers at a bar/eating facility.” The affidavit states Walker was observed by the deputy to have “a strong odor of alcoholic beverage” on his breath, poor balance, and glassy, bloodshot eyes.
