I would argue that this team going into 2022 is the best Jays team that I can remember.

I've been looking how this one compares to the 2015 Jays team (August onward)

2022 Blue Jays (so far) vs 2015 Blue Jays

1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr ---- Chris Colabello

2B Cavan Biggio ---- Ryan Goins

3B Matt Chapman ---- Josh Donaldson

SS Bo Bichette ---- Troy Tulowitzki

RF Teoscar Hernandez ---- Jose Bautista

CF George Springer ---- Kevin Pillar

LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr ---- Ben Revere

C Danny Jansen ---- Russell Martin

DH Alejandro Kirk ---- Edwin Encarnacion

Bench:

Santiago Espinal ---- Chris Colabello

Randal Grichuk ---- Dioner Navarro

Reese McGuire ---- Ezequiel Carrera

Greg Bird ---- Josh Thole

Josh Palacios ---- Dalton Pompey

Rotation

Kevin Gausman ---- David Price

Jose Berrios ---- Marcus Stroman

Alek Manoah ---- Marco Estrada

Hyun-Jin Ryu ---- R.A. Dickey

Yusei Kikuchi ---- Mark Buerhle

Bullpen

Jordan Romano ---- Roberto Osuna

Nate Pearson ---- Aaron Sanchez

Tim Mayza ---- Liam Hendriks

Adam Cimber ---- Brett Cecil

Yimi Garcia ---- Aaron Loup

Trevor Richards ---- Mark Lowe

Julian Merryweather ---- LaTroy Hawkins

Ross Stripling ---- Ryan Tepera

Ryan Borucki ---- Drew Hutchison

Jose De Leon ---- Bo Schultz

This team has obviously more quality pitching, but the 2015 team appears more top heavy. Thoughts?

the old Jays put up ridiculous offensive numbers, but that said this 2022 lineup has a chance to be really really good.

rotation wise probably prefer 2022, but our BP on any given week can go full tire fire.

No doubt. 2015 the Jays were tops in the league by far at 5.45 runs per game.

2021 Jays were'nt far behind though at 5.22, and that was with Springer gone for months - and now adding in Chapman. 2022 could be an entirely new level offensively.

If it's one year only I think I might give the edge to the 2015 team. But the 2022 team isn't done yet. They could still add this offseason and I expect they'll add at the deadline too whereas the 2015 team has already been given that benefit.

Also, are we sure that the 2022 team has "obviously" better pitching? The 2015 team had a 6.7 WAR David Price on the squad to go along with FIP-beater extraordinaires Estrada and Dickey.

I think this is more a question that can be answered after the season. On paper I give a slight edge to 2022 (I mean, Chris Colabello as both your 1B AND your first bench option? He very much outplayed his ability in both of those roles.)

True, but Price was only there for 74 innings. Stroman only pitched 20-some innings. The 4th starter was actually Hutchison who was brutal. It was Estrada, Dickey, and Buehrle as the top 3, then Hutch the tire fire in the 4 and a rotating tire fire of Doubront, Redmond, Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd and Scott Copeland until the Price trade. Stroman was a September callup, threw very well in his 4 starts.

Overall, the 2022 rotation from day 1 would definitely be superior to start with.

I would also place the end of season 2021 team in this conversation as well, that team was every bit as good as the 2015 or 2022 team as currently constructed. I would give the edge to the 2022 team as their window of contention is just opening vs the 2015 team which had a very limited window.

2015 team is probably a bit better than the current 2022 squad, but it’s undeniable that the current team is positioned much better for the future. Overall age of the roster is way younger and the farm still has a handful of very intriguing prospects.

I’d also say the current team is more likeable.

Bautista, Stroman, Donaldson, Tulo were all hot heads that were *******s at times.

I think the only *******/douche on the current roster is maybe Manoah

Osuna was also on that team. Although at the time he was just a young guy. Jose Reyes was a douche though he didn't finish the year with the team. Pompey is a mega dbag and got 100 PAs. The team was full of dbags only Gibbons could manage those egos.

How many times did Manoah intentionally throw at someone last season. Dude is a bit of a maniac

This is a close one, but not a fair comparison. Tulowitzki and Price were added mid-season. We don't know what the Jays will do this July but it will likely involve additions if any holes need plugging. Reyes and Tulowitzki were at least somewhat comparable talents but you take away Price and rewind to April 1, 2015 and that tips the scales to 2022.

I follow him on Instagram and he really gives off Stroman vibes/energy. Without the small man syndrome of course.

Just hoping his ego doesn’t go whack once he’s more established ala Marcus.

Maybe im reading him wrong idk. Time will tell

Not only throw at a guy, but then stand there and practically encourage them to come out.

I want Manoah on my team all day, every day.

It's unreal how many difficult personalities were on that team. Danny Valencia played 60 games for the team and he was a total douche. Pretty sure his attitude ran himself out of the league at one point. Even the role players like Pillar and Goins had very inflated views of themselves. Aaron Sanchez was always kind of a douche as well and he was on there.

Yeah Edwin and Estrada seem like the chillest dudes on the planet. Dickey always seemed like that guy from work who no one has a problem with but he's kind of older and just does his own thing. Might get a beer with him once a year or something.

Depth, roster construction, flexibility all a huge edge for 2022. I actually think because of expectations 2022 has more volitility. The Jays could 2013 with this team, not make a move and I'd still be confident in 2023 though.

Hard to believe that the expected payroll for this team is less than 2017.

He definitely has a dbag vibe but I don't think he will end up like Stroman. Stroman's like a small dog that keeps barking but never bites.

Stroman and Manoah are like the old cartoon with the tiny dog that bounces around the giant bulldog doing nothing but yapping until the bulldog punches him in the face.

You f***ing guys man. The commonality between Donaldson, Bautista, Goins, Valencia, Pillar, Stroman etc. is that they are all ATHLETES. Athletes in the social media age. Athletes in the Reddit/Twitter age where equal voices are given to the jocks and the nerds they terrorized in high school. You think George Bell or Kelly Gruber or Dave Stieb would translate well to 2020 society?

And honestly about Goins. Yes he was a piece of s*** MLB ballplayer. But a piece of s*** MLB ball player is better than 99.9999% of people who ever touched a baseball. If you were a fringe major leaguer you would have a big head too. For the majority of his friends and family growing up, Goins is the most famous and successful person they'll ever know.

I don't think anyone here is ripping them for being *******s. most of us here could give a flying f*** as long as they can play baseball well.

I think it's just moreso giving credit to Gibbons for managing the massive egos in that room and what it must have taken on a daily basis to ensure they all co-existed without killing each other

Now that would've been hilarious.
