SD #Padres stay aggressive and enter bidding war for free agent first baseman Freddie Freeman

I'd almost like to see the Padres land him just so Hosmer and Myers rot on the bench with their contracts.

Freeman is not the guy we need to overpay for. Of course if love him on the team but he's not the perfect fit like a Jose Rameriz.

Maybe you are right, he is almost 33 years old. Wonder what kind of term we are looking at here cause it can't be more than 5-6 years right? I just don't think it's worth to give up what Cleveland probably wants for Ramirez.

Probably like 6/180

I agree at least until he proves he absolutely can't handle it

Well, after watching Biggio there last year, I suspect Vladdy's arm (and his trimming down substantially) would give him at least one, if not several legs up over there. Not expecting Scott Rolen over there, but I feel that Vladdy could be average (or slightly below) at 3B, and his bat will more than cover any lost value.

I mean, you could from load it a bunch I guess.

22/40M, 23/40M, 24-25/30M, 26-27/20M

You could do that. Still gross but it lines up better with regression.

Orioles are going to land him outta nowhere...

Probably. Don't they move into the deferred payments for Chris Davis next year, for the next 15 years? Need another massive 1B contract.

Thinking the bidding war may push it 6/200.

Springer was easier to digest

I think a Jays Freeman signing is still incredibly unlikely to occur given the fact the front office walked away from Semien for what's likely to be similar money and term.

I have nothing to back this up, but it feels like Freeman has a preferred destination that he's either trying to get a better offer from or is waiting for them to make a corresponding move.

I'm expecting LA. If the Dodgers are interested, how could you not want to play there? Play in a world class city, hit in the middle of a stacked lineup, and pad the HoF resume by making the playoffs every year. I guess the big question is whether they're comfortable with Muncy spending most of his time at 2B/DH.

Totally agree. Playing for the Dodgers would rule. He lives in California in the offseason too.

Just having fun. We really need a 3rd. baseman imo.

I actually felt like we might get him yesterday. Now the Padres are bidding. I don't feel so confident now. He could be waiting so long because he's trying to convince his wife to let him go to Toronto though.

He's broken Jays signings in the past well before anyone else: Semien signing, Yimi Garcia signing, Berrios extension. He has legit sources, but just gonna have to wait to find out.

My take...

Big Hos must be so confused about why the Padres feel they need a 1B.

That must have been an old BJMB meetup. Spanky in the front doesn’t even look 30.

Spoken like a GM who is in deep free agency discussions with a star first baseman.

Or a trade for an All Star 3B, or both.

Now you're talking.

1. Springer

2. Ramirez (S)

3. Vlad Jr.

4. Freeman (L)

5. Teoscar

6. Bichette

7. Gurriel

8. Biggio (L)

9. Kirk

Don't tease me....

But in all seriousness, if you sign Freeman or land Ramirez via trade.... it kinda makes sense to just go for it and get the other deal done. you're all in but youve got at least a 2 year juggernaut window (assuming no Ramirez extension) and at least 4 years of juggernaut-lite.

Bro, where does Vlad play?

Yeah I'm all for shoving the chips into the table. This team is loaded and I'd be tempted to stack it further. But it might be prudent to wait until the trade deadline at least. Team could get hit with injuries and what appeared to be strengths might need to be fixed at the deadline.
