That sucks, he is one of my favorite if not favorite spec SPs. The TJ will also probably affect the Marlin's willingness to move pitchers, which also sucks for us...

no lies the JP Ricciardi teams are what got me into baseball

 

i hated the sport as a spectator until like 2004-2006 or so

 

I started following the Blue Jays during the 1997 and 1998 seasons as a kid. Shawn Green and Roger Clemens were two of my favourite players. Even Jose Canseco in 1998 was pretty awesome. The Jays still had some leftovers from the World Series teams like Tony Fernandez, Ed Sprague, Pat Hentgen, Dave Stieb, Juan Guzman as well.

 

I started becoming more of a student of the game once JP Ricciardi took over for some reason. His idea when he first came over was building a contender on a limited payroll and I found that Moneyball idea interesting at the time. I started watching baseball through the lens of a front office/GM instead of just a die hard fan. The 2002 season brought my excitement back after seeing guys like Doc, Wells, Hinske, Phelps, O-Dog breaking through. Started really following the team more in 2003 which was a fun season, seeing Halladay win the AL Cy Young for the first time and the seasons both Wells and Delgado had! I joined the message board in 2004 and even from having discussions and reading posts on here, have learned a lot more over the years from a lot of you guys!

My reference was to AJ Burnett and B. J Ryan... I want us to get another Marlin's SP and an O's closer this year, for real!!

 

I have been a Blue Jay fan since as long as I recall. First year I recall the team and knew what was going on was 83. I was at Exibition stadium the night before the clinch in 85 ready to charge the field..

 

My opinions on this board are derived from watching the Jays make the playoffs or near to it a hell of a lot in the 80's and 90's and not being able to get over the hump getting beat down by the A's, losing with a 3-1 lead to the Royals, losing to the Tigers down the stretch..until 92/93... In other words, I was learning about playoff success and failure from a fan perspective before half this board was born...

 

I was just messing with you FYI. One of my greatest offseason experiences was the Winter Meetings when JPR did all the big signings, Good times!!

Yup, as a fan there are always highs and lows when following a team. You definitely appreciate the highs from experiencing and going through the lows. Same thing for me during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Seeing the Jays make the Postseason and experiencing it for the first time in person was definitely special and felt rewarding from a fans perspective after following the team and baseball since 1997 and never getting a taste of watching a Postseason game live in Toronto.

 

That 2005/2006 offseason was a lot of fun. I remember the Blue Jays were in on a lot of guys like even Brian Giles and Milton Bradley haha.

Os about to take 3 of 4 from Rays. I think Os have a better shot at making the WC than Rays do lol.

The 16 games we have left against them are pretty f***ing scary.

 

At least, hopefully, Lopez and Santander will be somewhere else.

Baltimore is definitely in that weird window along with the Red Sox ... buyers? Sellers? Standing pat and then possibly losing assest for virtually noithing later? Tough call to make.

It's crazy how Baltimore built a shut down bullpen seemingly out of nowhere. It's a big part of their success or atleast charge towards the .500 mark. That offense is relatively mediocre and the rotation is as well.

Who would’ve thought that if you have a shutdown bullpen, you can win lots of games? Weird concept eh

 

They had the same bullpen in the first 2 months of the season and sucked. They're also still just a .500 team after yesterday. A great pen is fantastic, but if it's far and away the BEST part of your team, you're still just a team that needs better SP and better hitting.

I just saw an article that said they should trade Mancini to the Red Sox. Seemed odd how they thought one should be buyers and the other sellers.

 

What's tragic is that when they should finally trade Mancini and get something back for him, his numbers are pretty pedestrian after they moved the LF fence back 100 feet

Yeah. The guys they would sell wouldnt even really hold them back from being better next year.

I'm watching that show too, no way Mancini isn't getting traded, he said his goodbye to the fans like he knew he was gone.

I had completely forgotten he was originally a Jays pick.

 

It’s easy to forget because he never signed. So technically we never had him.
