While basically being a slightly better Matt Chapman. I'd rather extend Chapman.

No kidding, I would as well. Not sure what a Chapman extension would look like in today’s market. 3/60M ?

I get what you're saying, but he's a full win better basically, that doesn't fall in the slightly better territory.

He’s been worth 1 full win over the last two years more than Chapman. Not a whole bunch.

he's a tough one to evaluate for sure

my gut says if contreras and benintendi can pull $75M and $87.5M... and Nimmo can get 8 years... 3/$60 would be light

Probably is and giving him more than three years feels gross IMO. He’ll be 30 this year so a three year deal doesn’t really make sense for him. Either one year extension with big AAV or 4/5 year extension lower AAV

He’s probably a player you’d love to have for the next 3 years, but his bat is suspect and could fall off a cliff at any time.

Next years 3B FA pool

Machado

Devers

Chapman

Donaldson

Wendle

Turner

E. Escobar

If Barger doesn’t turn into the 2024 third baseman they’re gonna have to spend more money filling that hole. Can’t keep spending spending spending forever.

Yeah they need to graduate a couple more average regular (or better) position players in the next year or two.

And they really need Tiedemann or Zulueta to pan out and produce.

Payroll is getting hefty.

LMAO okay I think the Rangers will end up signing Conforto.

Rangers left fielders were far and away the worst in MLB last season, batting a combined .186/.253/.255. Every one of those rate stats ranked dead-last in the Majors, as did the resulting 47 wRC+. Texas, incredibly, gave 13 different players a look in left field last season.

I looked at last years numbers and his projected '23 numbers, roughly a win a season, that's around 10M in value, it isn't slightly better.

Devers will likely be reuniting with Bogey in SD

Why not look at 2021 as well?

1 WAR to 2 WAR is 100% upgrade

3.5 to 4.5 is a 22% upgrade

It is a slight upgrade, yes 10M value blah blah. It’s not worth spending 350M over 13 seasons

I never said that? I was just mentioning a projected win is what it is, meh, I mentioned I know what he was getting at, just don't agree with you guys as it being a slight upgrade.

Tough one, but I think Chapman can get $80-100M for sure.

You don't think they're keeping Machado?

They will likely have to decide between Machado and Soto. Machado is opting out of 5 years/$160M at the age of 31. Any injury this year could change things...but as much as he talks positive about San Diego, if he really wanted to stay he'd just not opt out.

Padres get Matt Carpenter to lengthen the lineup. Makes sense.

No it's to add some discipline to the young yahoos who snort coke off of each other's bats in the dugout.

Or he thinks he can get 8/$220 or something

I'm sure he gets at least that with a season even close to 2022. I just don't think he'll give any preferential treatment to SD in negotiating. You don't think he could walk up to SD right now and say extend me for 3 years $60M they wouldn't do it?

Once you finally leave the Northeast, if one does, there’s not much motivation to go back. f*** all those blizzards and snow storms

Depends on many factors, but again going back to owners aren’t stupid, you’d have Devers and Tatis together through their prime years, so you’d have to consider it

If you think Drury was for real in 2022 and could continue close to those numbers, this was a good signing.

This is true - but he's going to the Angels, so he'll probably be out of baseball within the next 6 months.

I think we just saw peak Brandon Drury, but should remain a good enough player to remain useful. His versatility is a real asset. I’d call this a great signing by the Angels.
