Not sure this has been mentioned but with rumours being the Jays expressed interest in Freeman and teams looking at the younger Olson on the trade front why is it assumed that the Jays would consider moving to Vladdy to 3rd? Certainly, you want him in the field but Vlad isn't the slowest guy in the world and he has a terrific arm so why not consider him in Right Field? I mean they always used to stick the all bat no glove types in the corners. I mean Manny Ramirez and Jose Canseco were big oafs and they managed to win WS titles.

Vlad in the outfield is kind of terrifying. I can imagine him diving for a ball and George Springer, ten meters away, getting injured.

I think Vlad is purely DH/1B at this point. 3B only in an emergency situation.

After the move to 1B and massive offensive breakout I think the team just needs to let him settle in, forever.

I agree. Let's not mess with a good thing.

Ramirez should be priority number 1.

But I honestly wouldnt be suprised if the Jays ended up with Bryant. Dont think Freeman is happening.

Yeah I don't think they want a roster where 1B and DH are both locked in, full time guys. That's not the way roster construction is trending. They will want DH open so guys like Springer and Teo can cycle through...

Any reported interest in Freeman is probably just price enforcing

RHP Drew VerHagen has agreed to a two-year, $5.5M deal with the Cardinals, per source. VerHagen pitched for the Tigers from 2014-19 and played in the NPB the last two years. He will earn $2.5M in 2022 and $3M in 2023, with up to $1M in performance bonuses each season.

VerHagen is the first post-lockout free agent signing. Many more to come… stay tuned.

Trade for Ramirez, sign Rodon or Kikuchi to round out the rotation and this team is a golden ticket.

What does everyone think of bringing Dickerson back?

He’ll probably be a cheap LH option for platoon/off the bench. Played well for us last year. I think he compliments the roster nicely if they cannot get someone better like Schwarber or Conforto

I have always liked Dickerson but he'd be down the preference list quite a bit.

As a final piece at the end of the flurry, I would dig it.

Looks like I lost the pool for which free agent would sign first.

Not me! I took "a guy I've never heard of".

I'm not totally sure that Dickerson gets more than a MiLB deal w/ an invite to spring training. I'd ABSOLUTELY give him that, though.

Martin Perez goes to the Rangers for 1/4. I'll miss him in the division, that man is always good hittin'.

That's not surprising. GMs and agents are simply too busy/overwhelmed to discuss moves with the media like they usually do. Each wasted minute could cost your team a key player.

Hey old friends.

As someone who's been out of the Blue Jays and baseball game for like 6 months, what's the expectation for the Jays between now and April. Another pitcher and an IF? What are we hoping to have happen, and what's realistic?

I've seen Freeman rumours but I don't really understand those. Would nailing Vlad to DH make sense? Would Freeman be playing DH?

Any merit to the Jose Ramirez rumours?

On the flip side, couldn't that trend also result in 1B and DH types being undervalued by the market?

Ideally the Jays will be looking to replace the offense provided by Marcus Semien last season, and the obvious weak spots on the roster would be second and third base.

We currently have 4 starters locked in, with some decent depth options with upside like Hatch and Pearson. Adding 1 more quality starter would be ideal.

On top of that, an addition or two to the bullpen would help a lot since we had one of the worst pens in the first half last year. Lacking a real quality arm on the level of Chapman/Barnes/Rays guys.

Sounds as if Carlos Rodon is very much in play for the Giants, and that could happen quickly, I am told.

The Ramirez rumours are like 90% Jays fans saying "WE SHOULD GET RAMIREZ". I've yet to see anyone with actual insight suggest it as even a remote possibility.

Freeman doesn't make sense to me either.

Honestly, I think this team is a couple of relievers and some depth pieces away from being a serious playoff contender, but there are lots of rumblings that another domino is going to fall before the season for the Jays.

Left-handed starter Carlos Rodón and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a two-year, $44 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

They can have him for that. You get him for 1 year if he is healthy and are on the hook for 44 million if he is hurt or sucks. Very risky.
