vaff Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 This deal is absolutely insane in a bad way. Cohen gonna run the Mets into the ground inside 5 years To be fair, they’re the Mets. They got nowhere to go but up!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Whats DeGrom gonna get when its his time lol deGrom can opt out after 2022 so if he has a healthy 2022 season, then he's probably beating Scherzer's AAV next winter unless he prioritizes years over AAV. Not sure how the Mets can possibly deal with that, but Cohen is a fan who owns a team, so he clearly is going to spend until it works.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Also lets talk about Scott Boras getting a tidy 30 million dollar commission over Thanksgiving weekend. God damn
jerb Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan Max Scherzer’s deal with the Mets is done, per source. Three years, $130 million, an opt out after the second season.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Scherzer will be a Dodger by morning I give the Mets a 5% chance at landing him Strategic leaking by Boras I was wrong
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I was wrong Same I guessed 3/120 for the Mets to steal him away. Didn't think it would happen but it did and it took even more Dodgers know when to back off
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Except last year when they gave Bauer 40 mill a year lol
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Jesus. That's a friggin payday I'd do that AAV at 2 years... but not 3.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 11:45am: Scherzer can opt out of the contract after the 2023 season, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. There’s also a full no-trade clause in the pact, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. He’ll also be paid $43.33MM in each year of the deal, Sherman adds. I'm trying to think of a scenario where he opts out of a 1 year 43.3333 million dollar deal. Anyone?

Well if you’re super rich and the Mets suck…and you’re still decent.. no harm taking less money one year and going back to LA, or wherever you plan to retire
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 It's like 50/50 Scherzer gets through 2022 without a major arm issue

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) What do you mean IF the Mets suck? They do have a pretty good team on paper man. Plus they're still trying to spend it seems so maybe this is their year lol. Edited November 29, 2021 by Jays24
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Your prediction had Semien to Seattle. Not Texas. The Mariners were on Semien till they aquired Adam Frazier via trade on Saturday then their interest wasn't as needy for Semien.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 The Mariners were on Semien till they aquired Adam Frazier via trade on Saturday then their interest wasn't as needy for Semien. Half the teams in baseball were on Semien. You were wrong, bro.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 With Scherzer + Semien gone, word on the street is that Stroman and Seager both want deals done before tomorrow, thinking of the possible roster freeze that might come with a lockout. What are those 2 looking at now? Stroman something between Gray and Gausman? Seager comparable to Semien?

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Yes in both cases While Seager is younger, he has a significant injury history and may already be due for a demotion down the defensive spectrum (to 3B most likely). I think he falls under the Semien deal by a fair bit.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Am I the only one refreshing mlbtraderumours like every 5 minutes waiting for the next bombshell signing? It's so disappointing to see s*** like "Phillies Claim Yoan Lopez" as the most current headline

Also, is the Mets payroll now like 265 million for 2022?

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Heyman is saying the Rangers are making a push for Seager, even after signing Semien. Might be a deal soon.
