God we're s*** in late innings. Didn't even advance the runner there.

And that's with a wild pitch thrown in :P

Fastball % and Zone % increasing steadily since his rookie year as teams don't respect his noodle bat. Atkins will figure this out in a couple years when he's in arbitration.

Had high hopes for him when he came up in 19. He had such elite pitch selection. For quite awhile he was elite in MLB in hard contact, chase and BBs.

League has figured him out and he hasn't been able to adjust. May never.

Just like the Leafs. This city sure builds horrible teams.

I can't believe they lost. I was positive they would not lose again the rest of the year.

Just to add a bit of context.. lost to a guy with a 6.75 ERA and struck out 9 times.

I want to see this team consistently beat +.500 teams not just clobber bottom feeders before I sing their praise.

How were they supposed to win when the offense sucked?

Agree the offense sucked today and really the game should not have even gone to extra innings. Jays have no clue when it comes to manufacturing runs in close games. Their approach at the plate seems to be swing for the fence all of the time. Up against a pitcher who throws junk, like today, they get mauled. Wish more Jays batters were adept at waiting on the pitch and simply slapping the ball the other way and getting on base...or moving players over. That said, I would have liked to have seen Mayza in extra innings today and think a guy like Hand should have been used in the 5 -0 game. But that is just me.

I think it's time for the Kevin Smith experiment to begin. Send Biggio to Buffalo.

Yep. They've gotten to 6 games above .500 three times.

May 18 - Lost 6 straight

July 18 - Lost 3 straight and 6 of the next 8

August 1 - Lost 1 so far...

5 steps forward, 4 steps back, 3 steps forward, 4 steps back.

All damn season long

They’re probably starting to consider you’d have to think

Roll one up and relax

I'm fine, we lost in extras, s*** happens... you need to address some of the dingleberries in this thread, lol.

I need to? You think I’m a mod or something? I can understand you may think that based on my exceptional posting quality but I’m not

Hand is NOT the kinda pitcher you want to start an inning with a guy on 2nd and no outs. You need someone with swing and miss stuff.

Also, what the hell was Montoyo thinking not pinch-hitting Grichuk in the 9th?! The guy's absolutely lost at the plate. And why In Gods name is he batting 6th?! Montoyo is a jackass

Really hate this gimmick extra innings rule. Like its fine if they do it to start the 13th inning. But I think their should be atleast 3 regular extra innings first.

It's especially absurd considering how hamstrung a manager is with the new 3 batter minimum relief pitcher rule. Rob Manfred's clueless, I never thought I'd miss Bug Selig but here we are.

It's okay connor, we know you're a meathead. Address them as the sky is falling idiots. Tell them to relax, duh!

Montoya never ceases to amaze. By almost every metric this team should have a MUCH better record. But Montoya uses arguably their best reliever in a 5 -0 game so that he is unavailable for a tie game. Jays would be a MUCH better team without Montoya.

This Montoya dude sounds like a real clown. Too bad the Jays manager is MontoyO though.

I tend to think the amount of wins a manager changes is pretty minimal, but between a bad bullpen and Montoyo this team has seriously underperformed it's talent level. We've got a real shot at winding up with one of the worst differences between our expected record based on run differential and our actual record. Run differential would have us as a 61-41 team right now.

Monto'yoyo' is definitely holding this team back. His so-called philosophy of taking care of this game and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow has led to the Jays complete inability to go on a run. Right now, he has three high leverage arms in the bullpen (Cimber, Romano and Mayza) but he will use them in a 5 -0 game so they are not available if needed in a close game or one that heads to extra innings. I cannot count the times he has wasted the little amount of talent he has in the bullpen in a lopsided game only to not have them available in a close game the next day. There are several reasons the Jays do not fair well in close games but this is definitely one of them.
