Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Players fall for signability in literally every round of the draft - saving just $~$350K gets us to right at around $1 million for the 3rd round pick, which is the slot value at the end of the 2nd round. That's enough to entice a legitimate HS pick to sign in the 3rd, not even taking into account further signing-bonus manipulation (ie: maybe they plan on punting in the 9th/10th rounds? Maybe they can save even more than $350K at #19?). Most high schoolers taken in the 3rd will sign anyways i believe
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 Hadn't even turned on the MLB Network broadcast for a minute before Harold Reynolds made a Cal Ripken comp. I f***ing hate this guy.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Damn... the Reds have 3 picks in the top 35... 4 in the top 53. Their farm is going to get a massive bump. Tbf they need it
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 @BlueRocky and Metafour I know the Jays haven't been tied to him at all but how do you guys feel about Binelas as an underslot option at #19? I really liked him at the combine.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 He was a top end pick pre-season but stock slipped a bit. The talent is there and I like his power but not sure about taking him at 19. He looks more like a 2nd rounder right now similar to Conine. The college prep group is notoriously weak this year, while the prep bat group is very strong. I rather take gamble on a higher ceiling bat if they don’t like the pitching available.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Any predictions for our pick? I am personally expecting us to stick to our 1st round college trend. While the connection to Jay Allen is strong I still think they don't pass up on a big college arm like Ryan Cusick, Jordan Wicks or Sam Bachman. There's also a lot of Buzz about us and Trey Sweeney and we could definitely use a left handed power bat who plays 3B well.
starfield Verified Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 One thing I liked about last year's draft was that the Jays drafted best player available and figured out the signing after. They should have the same approach
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Henry Davis going 1st overall according to Passan.
Benito Verified Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Surprise pick right off the bat? Awesome. Hope someone in top 10 drops to Jays.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Most of the mocks said they couldn't pin down the Pirates pick. Hope that turns out well for Cherington.
Benito Verified Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Wow. Pedro looks like he gain a bit of weight.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Henry Davis going 1st overall according to Passan. BA actually talked about Davis a lot and thought it would not be surprising if Davis went 1st, given the lack of good college bat this year. His arm is a real cannon. It’s a solid bat that will stick behind the plate. His overall package isn’t quite in the tier of Rutschman though.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 No Leiter for Boston. Good
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Detroits pick is really interesting cause they have been linked to Jackson Jobe forever buy now they have a shot a Mayer.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 And Detroit going for Jobe so Mayer falls.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Rangers will be happy with Leiter
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Yep Mayer going to the Red Sox, kind of similar to Martin with us last year but less consensus at the top this year.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Baseball's draft system sucks. That is all lol.
