If Dolis was and quit using it maybe it's time to put the guy out to pasture. Same with Chatwood. These guys struggle to throw strikes at the best of times, and now when they actually get it in the zone their pitches are way more hittable.

 

If this is the case we have to stop trotting them out there and costing us games. Take them away from Charlie, Shatkins, same as you did with Panik.

- Releasing McGuire only for Charlie to start using him over Jansen

- The entire Giles situation (Charlie using him 3 days in a row and getting injured just before the trade deadline. FO should have told him they were planning a trade so don’t f***ing injure him)

They were right to waive McGuire when they did, and now McGuire had earned this bump in playing time (while Jansen deserves his demotion). These are isolated events.

 

Releasing Chatwood and Dolis makes no sense. The relievers replacing them would not be any better and both at least have a chance to right the ship and be useful. If health plus reinforcements bumps either of them off the team the great, but we are a long way from that happening.

 

I don't think they traded Panik to take him away from Charlie. They traded for a reliever and what they hope is an eventual upgrade on Panik. That's all there is to it.

But don't you know you're only allowed to use your best reliever when already leading? The amount of the lead doesn't matter either, it's just too upsetting to the natural rhythm of the closer to pitch in a game where your team is behind in the score.

 

Dolis was passable in late innings in 2020 so that makes him a lock to be good in 2021. Even though he just came back from injury. And has been f***ing terrible this season. And has been injured multiple times already. And potentially has to readjust to no longer being able to use grip enhancers/sticky stuff. If the need is great enough for a reliever to be good for your team you just need to keep throwing him into leverage situations and hope for good things to happen. It's the power of positivity, wishing for good things to happen even though they are almost assuredly are not going to happen. In the world of Charlie Montoyo this is tactical managing 101.

Dolis was a great find from the dumpster. He is again a dumpster level pitcher.
