Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 150 IQ guys trade Biggio. That would be Keith Law. Keith Law doesn't have an IQ of 150, he's the classic midwit. IQ (approximate) Cousin Ralph who wins Fantasy pool somehow despite not finishing high school - 80ish Kieth Law - 100 Guys who run Rays - 150

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Dammit I want Kyle Hendricks or Craig Kimbrel Cubs are pretty much there in being forced to sell
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I'm on board with it. Groshans will be up next season, elite replacement of Bo. He is killing it with the bat and the glove. What could go wrong with this plan?
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Trade Bichette. Move Semien back to short. Bichette is great, and it would hurt to lose him.. But his bat and "image" are what some teams would kill to acquire. Defensively? That's not what he's expected to bring, and we'd be fine losing him on that end, especially if it meant getting a pair of middle relievers and a journeyman in the vein of MacDonald By middle relievers, I'm taking Plesac-Quantrill type stuff Do you heonsely think if Bo was on DL for 6 weeks, it would have any significant impact on our ability to tread water at .500? Not sure if that trolling closetag reference was aimed at me. I'm not trolling. I'm just saying, going all-in and trading Bichette is not a make or break gamble. I would be for doing it, at a good price. And about 500. We are a 500 team. 6 over in mid may, since then 20-22. That's not exactly a positive slope. https://media2.giphy.com/media/13871fiv9kBfkQ/giphy.gif?cid=82a1493brbd5dgv5bgcjmly45sqa626ccjh5tajx5xfgo09a&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Doesn't sound like an actual rumor, but hell yes to adding Cruz. Use Grichuk as the 4th OF, rest Cruz a few times a week due to his age (which would open up DH for Vlad/Springer when necessary), and outslug everyone.

I hope he doesn’t make it to Oak or Tampa though

Could even be in one big stinky deal if Minnesota is adding pitching.
Scion Verified Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 The Jays lineup with Cruz in it would be comical... 1. Semien, 2B 2. Bichette, SS 3. Guerrero, 1B 4. Cruz, DH 5. Springer, CF 6. Hernandez, RF 7. Gurriel, LF 8. Biggio, 3B 9. Jansen, C
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 I could see a Gurriel or Grichuk + prospects for Berrios, Cruz and Rogers kind of block buster.

This idea is absurd Cruz is 40 yrs old he wasn't a good fielder to start with and since 2017 he played 9 games in the outfield and they were all with Seattle Mariners with the Twins he was used as a DH only. Cruz hasn't step in an outfield in last 4 years. Cruz is a DH only and that is his only value to any AL team.

There is room for him on every AL team save Houston and New York.

I hope he doesn’t make it to Oak or Tampa though Not the perfect fit since a DH-only is a bit restrictive, but for a DH-only who can put up a 140-150 wRC+, I think you can find a way to make it work.

Yeah, I mean I wouldn’t complain. When you have your ideal lineup, especially playoff time, it’d be worth it.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Someone explain why they are going after Cruz? We need pitching, pitching and more pitching.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Someone explain why they are going after Cruz? We need pitching, pitching and more pitching. Because the Twins will be sellers, he’s one of the 15 best hitters in the league and there won’t be a lot of teams in on him. Love the idea of lengthening the offence even if it creates a bit of a jam.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Just need to add Kyle Hendricks as Marco Estrada and this will be the 2015 Jays all over again
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 You need less pitching if you score more runs though. True, hope they throw in berrios.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Someone explain why they are going after Cruz? We need pitching, pitching and more pitching. Not if they just hit dingers all day.
Scion Verified Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Someone explain why they are going after Cruz? We need pitching, pitching and more pitching. Well its not clear that they are actually pursuing Cruz, but if they were the rationale would be that a run scored equals a run saved.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Sign me up for Cruz at DH, especially if it doesn’t cost them an arm, leg, or kidney. Pitching still a need, but letting TBR get Cruz would really suck for us.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 You need less pitching if you score more runs though. I am all for a move that would make the lineup so deep that Teoscar would become the 6-hitter. Two (hopefully three) months of DH logjam is a very small price to pay for a mutant like Cruz.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 There's only like 3 teams that would even be in on Cruz. TOR, OAK, TB. Cost might be low. I don't even know if TB/OAK could take the rest of his salary this year. My mind keeps turning to Seattle. They're also right there in the standings and would hugely benefit from adding him to their lineup.

I don't even know if TB/OAK could take the rest of his salary this year. This right here. If you can get Cruz for relatively spare parts, why not? What's likely happening here though: 1. We're not just targeting Cruz. Jose Berrios and/or Taylor Rogers would probably be coming back too. 2. Heyman is just bullshitting, as usual.

Ray Verified Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 I don't think the Twins are major sellers. I think they'll only sell the expirings. Both of them are free agents are the end of next season. If Twins want to maximize their return, now makes the most sense to sell them both if they don't re-sign. Especially because both are having one of their better seasons. You don't want to risk either underperforming and/or getting injured (like pitchers tend to do) and getting less in return. We've seen smaller-market teams like the Indians do this with Trevor Bauer and Mike Clevinger recently too (both were traded with 1.5 years of control). We'll see what happens, but I think both get moved by the Twins this deadline. If not Rogers, than definitely Berrios. There were rumors swirling in Spring Training that they were getting nowhere in extension talks.

I'm sure they would trade Rogers and Berrios but I bet they would only do it for specific kinds of deals with MLB talent coming their way and those deals might not be out there.
