If the Jays can get mediocre pitching, I'll take the Jays over the Yankees this year.

Yankees could get anything from 1 iining pitched to a Cy Young from Kluber or Taillon

And they could get 100 HR or 30 HR between Stanton and Judge depending on how healthy they are

I was really impressed by Kay. He was throwing hard and pumping the zone with strikes against the top of the Yankees order.

God I hope he breaks out. Him becoming a viable 3rd or 4th starter would go a long way for this team

Tellez is going to open a lot of eyes around the league this year. Skinny Vlad definitely looks better all around. I really think Biggio needs to level out his swing slightly, especially with the balls now not having as much carry. Is it just me or does it look like Groshans bat speed is a bit tardy? I agree with someone's previous post on this year being Jansen's last chance. Kay looked fantastic, threw hard and located well. Great first game, you can see the regulars are primed to leg up this year.

Agreed on Tellez.

His new short and quick approach will do wonders. His HR total will be most likely be in the single digits, but his new approach will no doubt increase his numbers everywhere else. He sure looks a lot more comfortable at the plate in the few AB's he's had so far and it appears Jacoby may have found what he needed.

He's hit well at every level of pro ball except at the MLB level. He has a natural born ability in getting the barrel to the ball but big league stuff (especially secondaries) are recognized too late. His new shorter approach will allow him to let the ball travel a bit longer before committing. Just the way he's taking pitches now would indicate he's seeing the ball a lot better.

The talent is there, but his approach needed something to adjust to the superior MLB pitching. He seems like he may have found something, so look for his offensive numbers to be much better.

How can you think his HR total will be in the single digits when he had 8 HRs in 35 games while being in and out of the lineup last year?

He might start platooning with Grichuk but his bat might push him into a full time role.

I don't know enough about pitching to understand how he can throw 90, 91 and have such a high spin rate. Does he have the best stickem compound in the game?

Also good news. Travis Bergen is back with the club!

I think spin is all about grip and release. Sure you can add foreign substances to the ball to make it behave differently, and maybe Joey Murray is doing that, but I think the spin rate probably has a lot more to do with his arm angle, how he's gripping the ball and how he makes it come out of his hand.

I guess you are having some fun, nothing wrong with that, but it is kind of funny because this hypothetical adjustment, that changes him from a .250 hitter with 25 homers, to a .285 hitter with 10 homers would be completely useless... lol.

Considering how balls are just dying in the air today, Vladdy rocked that one pretty good.

It's the new balls! The dead ball era started today.

Love the idea of Joey Murray as an opener or multi inning reliever. If he came into a game after a groundball/sinker pitcher the hitters would just be f***ed.

We could just give him a chance to be a multi inning opener....like 5 or 6 innings every 5th or 6th game!

That's a starter workload? He ain't that.

He was a starter in 2019. I don't see why he can't be a starter until he fails. Start him in AAA and see how he does. If he does well, bring him up as a starter when the injuries inevitably happen.

I thought Groshans bat looked slow, too.

In videos his bat has seemed super quick. Maybe just a bit late today.

I'm sure they'll give him a chance but ideally the team has enough pitching that guys like Murray can be used more optimally. See the Dodgers and how they deploy guys like Stripling.

Or they can just do things the old school way and win less games if that's your preference?

Late on basically all of his swings at fastballs today. First game though and the guy has like barely played pro baseball. Meaningless.

I thought his body looked good though. Not obviously rigid or too big for the infield. They clearly plan on having him play shortstop this year

Tellez will be sharing more his playing time than with just Grich Montoyo suggest he plans to use Gurriel at 3rd and 1st base this season.

I'm sorry you're correct, I was thinking of Patrick Murphy, my bad.

Great game for the Jays minus a few blunders in the field. Kay/Tellez standout for me. Gary Sánchez is going to hit a homer next game. That HUGE leg kick and slow bat speed was embarrassing. Edited by wilko

He hit one over the batters eye today in CF, he's a beast... :P
