Looks fine here

I think the issue is that his face is just naturally Fat Albert-like. It creates the illusion that he is fatter than he is. I mean, what kind of granny or auntie wouldn't want to pinch that boy's cheeks then cook up a lasagna for him?

If any game this series is a "must win" it's today. Ryu vs Richards, who has been getting clobbered. Losing today would be awful.

That is how I feel, and it's even moreso because I'm going to the game today for the first time since before the pandemic. A loss would be sub optimal to say the very least.

No Bo today?

Kind of an important game for a rest day isn't it?

I think he might have tweaked something. It looked like he was limping after his AB in the 8th.

He just played several games in a row and two yesterday. There's an off-day tomorrow but then a double-header immediately after as well, which kicks off a week visiting the West Coast. If there's even a chance of a tweak it's probably worth getting him a breather. Today is probably the most favourable match-up for Toronto of the whole series anyway, though maybe less so without Bichette (and the Sox are without JD).

JD is back today. So is that Duran kid, who's kind of a pain in the ass.

Makes sense. At least two of those fouls looked really brutal. He made some good plays this series in spite of it. He's a beast.

I looked up my own stats for once in my life. Danny Jansen 4.04 pitcher ERA vs 3.69 for Reese in same amount of time really. That cuts into the narrative of how much better it is for pitchers with Jansen behind the dish. Hopefully we don’t see his mug again this year. Maybe he can be a AAAA hero and build some trade value

What could you get for Jansen?

Change of scenery trade for another borderline flop.

Probably better to sell high on Reese in the offseason and just tell Jansen he's a backup from now on.

Let Jansen rehab until the rosters expand. Then DH Kirk every day that he's not catching. I understand playing McGuire for his glove, but grounding Kirk's bat to give Grichuk and Gurriel ABs is painful.

In the meantime hopefully one of the extra outfielders learns how to hit.

Sell high? Reese looks like a solid backup-type C. Not much more than that, it’s just a revelation from the s*** we had to see with Jansen

That's the point I think. Reese looks like a rock solid backup C right now but Jansen is probably a better bet to actually be that type of player year over year.

Anyway, Jays can get creative and do a lot of different things in the next year or so but the one thing they can't do is keep all these catchers. Certainly they'll be dealing at least one.

To be fair, our bullpen and starting rotation has improved since Jansen has been hurt. Manoah/Richards/Cimber/Berrios were not with the team to start the year.

I still agree that Jansen should spend the rest of the season in AAA. He needs to figure out his hitting if he plans to be a starting level catcher. Right now, he's trending towards being a backup catcher.

Neither Cimber or Richards was a world-beating RP. The staff as a whole have been over-achieving from their expected ERA. I’m not trying to give a C too much credit for that but you can also say with confidence we aren’t missing Jansen in that regard. So if he can’t hit for jack s***, what’s the point?

My convoluted relationship with Dolis seems to be back on somewhat. He still walks guys. He's slow as f***, but 0 runs in his last 8 appearances.

Would you rather have Burnes, Peralta and Woodruff or Ray, Berrios and Manoah?

This isn't close. Milwaukee has been insane in developing pitching the past ~5 years.

I have no numbers to support this but my sense is that Reese has only been able to have respectable AB’s while Jansen is on the IL. It seems like Reese hot streak died when Jansen came back and then once he left his AB’s were better again.

Did you see this BS on the MLB.com power rankings they put out today?

I have no idea how any power ranking can have the Yankess 5 places above the Jays.
