connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 Joe Biden should be invited to throw out the first pitch. He's done a great job re-opening getting those who want to be vaccinated, vaccinated, and also subtly caring for both the new normals (I myself have been RNAd and am a new normal) and old-style humans. Honestly us new normals go to the stores, the games, the bowling allies, along side old-styles and no one knows who is who unless you advertise. It's OK. Joe Biden for first pitch, not Canadian but has helped us get along. I’m not a political strategist but Biden doing a Mr. Burns impression from the Simpsons doesn’t seem like it has any upside

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 Huh? Are they? In the States cases are up a decent amount in pretty much every state.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 Huh? Are they? Everywhere is an exaggeration, but in some places it's starting to spike again Delta and Lambda variants are f***ing things up for everyone.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 Huh? Are they? In the US, the 7 day total # of cases is up 67% from the previous 7 day total. Deaths are up 19% over the same time period also. In Canada, we're down 4% for the # of cases and down 23% in deaths. The world averages are up 15% and up 3% FWIW. I have no f***ing idea what that all means though. I kind of think it's to be expected as everyone is going hog wild now that it feels like life is going back to normal.

philly30 Verified Member Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 Huh? Are they? Ok maybe not everywhere but more and more places are seeing rises in cases and hospitalizations and I hope I am wrong but I just can not see the Government letting the Jays back in now

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Author Posted July 16, 2021 Jays announced the upcoming starters. Ray, Ryu and Matz open the Rangers series, which lines up their three best current starters in Manoah, Stripling and Ray for the Boston series. Not sure if the front office set this up or it was Montoyo's call but credit where credit is due. Shrewd rotation management.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Author Posted July 16, 2021 Usually roll my eyes at cherrypicked stats like this but all of these are big round numbers and common milestones for each of these stats. Frankly kinda bonkers nobody's ever done it before. There's also a guy on reddit who ran some Stathead searches to remove some of these qualifiers: Most of the searches were still only Bo alone. The ones that weren't were mostly hall-of-famers.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Doesn’t seem like an unfair artificial deadline, 2 weeks to work out employees and logistics for a major league stadium operation. I’ll consider going to another Buffalo series in August if they have it, so I’m going to root for the Jim’s in Canada to prevail here

I’ll consider going to another Buffalo series in August if they have it, so I’m going to root for the Jim’s in Canada to prevail here I think end of July MLB in Toronto, with the appropriate restrictions, is an acceptable risk. And let's not compare the risk of a couple of hockey playoff games with a large number of MLB games / teams rotating through Toronto. The risk levels are quite different. The reason I think MLB in Toronto by end of July is probably acceptable has to do with vaccination rates, by that time Canada will have more than 80% of vaccine eligible people fully vaccinated (and approx. 70% overall). There is nothing artificial about the dates, they would be tied to Cdn vaccination rates. Of course, risk is subjective and everyone will have a different opinion.

So if the bosses of Dudley Do Right give the Jays the ok to open on July 26 for a July 30 opening day, Jays should be ready to go? Doesn’t seem ideal but I don’t know how it’s worked out with everyone being able to drop what they’re doing and be ready to open the gates in few days

The only consideration the government has in this matter is public safety. If MLB in Toronto is permitted as of July 30, and can't happen for another week due to logistics, big f***ing whoop.

TFC has to be a good sign for the Jays. When is phase 3 reopening in Toronto? I'm trying to book a trip for August, but my little guy loves animals and I don't want to book if the aquarium and zoo aren't open.

They can work out those details over the following days/weeks. The key is "can baseball teams come in and play".

Well it's either going to be the homestand on the 30'th or next month on the 20th. Still plenty of time, Connor's dumb.
