The team has the same feel as the 2015 team to me. Great team with a great run differential and amazing offense that grabs a piece or 2 at the deadline and just explodes to a 45-17 finish or something to win the East

If they're serious about making a run and shoring up the pen, I wouldn't wait until the deadline. If they're waiting for guys to get healthy and hopefully shore themselves up, then they're not convinced that this is the season to go ALL IN. Just my opinion.

You typically have to wait until close to the deadline. Time for sellers to become sellers, or admit that they aren't getting the sun and the moon for, I dunno, Taylor Rogers.

We *DO* have 18 or 19 games left to play against the Orioles

True. But even the Orioles will win some of those just cause they're an annoying fanbase, organization, and city.

I guess if you're just adding a rental then ya....but at the cost of giving yourself less runway to catch up if the current group can't start a run on their own.

Waguespack is striking out a s*** ton of batters this year in AAA. K% highest its been since he was in low A. Wonder if this just a random hot streak or if he is actually better at missing bats. Id have to imagine if hes K'ing that many batters as a starter it would be worthwhile to give him a shot as a 1 inning reliever to see if he can translate that swing and miss to the big leagues.

Interesting. Any data on his velocity, pitch mix of spin-rates?

No clue haha the AAA games arent on statcast unfortunately.

I have to imagine that hes definitely doing something that he hasnt the last few years. He had a decent 90-93 fastball that could have success up in the the zone iirc but he didnt have much else so he probably either added some velo or added a wipeout breaking ball.

This is how you can find the info...

For getting the Baseball-Savant data for certain MiLB games, get the game id from MiLB game day and then replace any game id in any gamefeed page in baseball-savant with that game id. For example, today’s Dunedin Blue Jays game:

MiLB gameday URL: https://www.milb.com/gameday/blue-jays-vs-threshers/2021/05/21/648838

Savant url: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?gamePk=648838

“gamePk”= the game id from MiLB game day

That doesnt work for every game spanky. Not all ballparks feed data into baseball savant. Afaik there arent any AAA or AA parks that work. I think dunedin feeds into it which is nice.

I guess Dunedin has it because that was the Jays home park? IDK

As far as I've seen to date, it's just the Low-A Southeast teams that have the Statcast data linked: Bradenton, Clearwater, Daytona, Dunedin, Fort Myers, Jupiter, Lakeland, Palm Beach, St. Lucie, and Tampa.

I don't know about a 2015 run, but a significant hot streak hasn't happened yet, and the schedule eases up considerably after the Yankees series. A nice hot streak heading into the break seems very possible, especially if Springer/Kirk get back soon. The bullpen is still going to be an issue though. Against bad teams the Jays might be able to get away with it.

Literally every team has hot streaks during the coarse of a 162 game season. For reference, the Diamondback are the worst team in the majors and had a 9-2 stretch in the last month. We have yet to really go on a hot streak. Kind of hard to do that when the schedule has been as tough as ours.

Is there any merrit to HR derby messing up a players swing? I kinda lean him not going if only cause its another day off for him for down the stretch.

Having said that, it would be a lot of fun and the exposure would be awesome for his MVP season

No there's no merit to it, he has a HR derby everyday at BP.

If I recall, Vladdy started to hit better after the derby last time he participated.

My only concern with him competing in the derby would be a possible oblique injury or something.

We know not everybody on the Jays is vaccinated, because they only last week hit the 85% vaccination threshold to allow them to forego masks in the dugout. Until I hear otherwise I'm going to assume that Matz is a regressive anti-vaxxing NRA zealot who voted for Trump and probably stormed the capitol. If he was vaxed, I'm sure he will make a point of stating so to reporters. If not, safe to assume he's a f***ing dumbass.

If they’re not going to go all in does that mean they possibly trade Semien at some point as he’s only on a one year deal?

Would they get compensation for Semien signing elsewhere?

We can offer Semien a QO this fall. If he rejects and signs elsewhere we'd get a pick at the end of the 2nd round.

And he'll clearly be worth the QO

Possibly Ray and Matz too

Springer please. Grichuk stepped in well and did what he does. But here we are mired in what he also does.

Worth 0.6 WAR and 104 wRC+

Gurriel has been better lately but 76 wRC+ neg WAR.

With our pitching sadly we need more offense and better D from the OF.

Charlie Montoyo following the loss:

"We don’t need to be frustrated. We’re playing good games, losing games like this. They’re tough, yes, but we’re playing good.”

I can't stand this guy. These quotes aggravate me.

Vlad sitting in the dugout for several minutes post-game yesterday clearly frustrated, and we have this loser with comments like this. Unbelievable

At this point, if he's pain free bring him up to the big club. What's the point of him continuing to get at bats in AAA. He can't be much worse than some of the guys we've been throwing out there so let him just get his timing down with the Jays. Enough is enough. The mental boost that it would provide alone is enough to merit it. Let's go already.

If he gets hurt again we'll blame you personally.

They rushed him the first time and it ended poorly. If he needs to be eased in and monitored closely...then I don't want a roster spot used on someone that's a maybe, maybe not. Bring him up when he's 100%, can play a full game, and can play every day.

So I guess Biggio is good again?

1.559 OPS since returning from injury.

I wonder if Charlie noticed
