Until we get robo umps, he needs to start swinging assuming the umps suck at their jobs. Too many borderline takes.

We’ll see. I sincerely hope I eat crow, I just think he’s punching way above his weight class as full-time 3b; with the bat and arm.

I was just reminded by Sportsnet that Rogers considered Dan Duquette and Kenny Williams before hiring Shapiro and Atkins

Maybe they would have kept AA around and who knows where we are today. Although I do love where we are at now but it was not an easy process to get here lol.

AA wasn't staying once Shapiro was hired and placed above him

So I guess Beeston leaving really forced the whole shakeup

This Springer contract is looking ugly so far. Uglier when he turns 34.

Over/under on 400 games played in 6 years?

Damn man... you can't make this statement 6 games into the season. Let's see what the results of the hammy are and even then, this is a farfetched comment. It was always the idea to shift him to a corner OF spot in his later years.

I can't remember weren't they denied the interview with both Kenny Williams and Dan Duquette? Lucky Shapiro was looking to make a change himself.

Yeah, because Ed Rogers Jr, is a moron and was basically tampering... glad the Board had him get out of baseball decisions immediately, clown did us a favour and Shapiro was hired. :P

This is a bad post, and you should feel bad for posting it.

Will the Jays likely face Ohtani Saturday?

Yes, I think so. Unless they decide to skip a start. He did have that play at home that left him a little shaken, but by all indications he was fine.

Let’s assume Semien ends up posting a 120 wRC+ and around 4 fWAR for the season. How much would it take to extend him? I really like what I’ve seen from him so far, and by all accounts, he really seems to love it here. He had other options to play everyday SS and chose to come to the Jays because of the culture and the young players. I’m not saying he’s gonna take a discount because of it, but if all goes well, I think there’s a chance we could convince him to stay.

Maybe something like 5 years, $80M?

If Semien shows his 2019 wasn't a flash in the pan I'd love to see the Jays re-sign him but I'm hoping they get a chance to take a run at Correa, Seager or Story first. If they can't sign any of those three Semien would be a decent back up plan.

This is technically his age 30 season, but he turns 31 in September. I'd much rather look at a 3 or 4 year deal.

It will be interesting to see what they do with him with the likes of Martin, Orelvis, Groshans, etc. all coming along soon. While I agree - I love what he's brought - I'm not sure we'll be looking to lock up a MI spot for 5 years to a guy in his 30's. Lots can happen though between now and the end of the year.

Semien is a guy that can play every position on the diamond but C. And I'm aware he has no outfield reps in MLB. Pretty sure if both Martin and Groshans are on the big league roster by 2023, there will still be plenty of opportunities for Semien to play.

But I doubt the Jays will match what he is offered if he keeps this production up. Early days, but a 140 wRC+ with s***** luck, .176 BABIP.

He chose to come to the jays cause they gave him the most money lol.

If you actually listened to him talk, then you'd know that he was really hoping to stay in Oakland, or even sign an extension. And he said that in interviews after he signed with Toronto when he really didn't need to. He's not just after the most money. Comfortability is clearly important to him. These things are a case-by-case basis, even if the vast majority of times it does come down to money.

With Semien, he really seems to like being in Toronto, we can offer him a good amount of money, and we're going to be competitive for a while. It's as great of a free agent destination as anyone can ask for.
