Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 And why not?? When Yates returns we have 3 legit closers. Turning 1 of them into a starter might not be such a bad idea. Unless they wanna go with 1 closer and 2 setup guys A heckuva lot will change between now and Yates coming off the IL, if he ever does.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 (edited) NY media is already starting to lose their s***. I love it!! https://nypost.com/2021/04/01/yankees-weaknesses-exposed-in-opening-day-flop/ It's NYC they have to overreact after one game LOL I worry that Torres remains such a libility that they decide to load another Gerrit Cole sized dumptruck full of money and give it to Trevor Story. I actually hope the Rockies do something stupid so they don't get the chance. Damn though Torres should not be playing SS on a WS caliber team Edited April 2, 2021 by G-Snarls
Ex Player Verified Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 I thought about putting down some money for yesterdays game, and I ran across this site: https://www.actionnetwork.com/mlb/mlb-betting-odds-picks-prediction-blue-jays-vs-yankees-april-1 It didnt age well I quote some of their gems For Thursday’s opening day game, the Yankees predictably are heavily favored as -177 moneyline favorites (63.9 breakeven odds) According to his PECOTA projections, Ryu is expected to have a DRA of 3.88, which while impressive does not guarantee that Toronto wins whenever he pitches. While I expect Ryu to go close to six innings against the Yankees, the Blue Jays are not helped by their bullpen, which is project to be average this season. They are also not helped by having to face a dangerous Yankees lineup Outside of Bruce, the rest of the Yankees’ lineup is above average or better offensively. According to my model’s projections, the Yankees’ Opening Day lineup produces 13.4% more runs per game than the average MLB lineup After simulating the game 10,000 times, I project that the median number of runs scored is 8.54. That is why I am taking the over. I would not play it if the total rises to 8.5. The Pick: Over 7.5 Runs (-115) Although they do get some other things right to be fair
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 I know it's Game 1, but I really think Bo, Teo, Vlad, LGJ are the teams top hitters and need to be moved to the top of the lineup.

I love it!! https://nypost.com/2021/04/01/yankees-weaknesses-exposed-in-opening-day-flop/ Montoyo has magically exposed all their weaknesses in just one game, cruising to a convincing 3-2 victory in extra innings. Plan the AL East pennant parade route.

spats Verified Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 This could be the Jays possible 2023-24 line-up. Ist-Vladdy 2nd -Bo ss -Orelvis 3rd Biggio Catchers-Kirk, Moreno Of- Springer, Teoscar, Martin, LGJ Dh- Rowdy or any of the above Starters- Ryu, Pearson, Manoah, SWR, any free agent . All dependant on possible injuries and setbacks of course but nice to think about.

Clearly Springer has to be leadoff and Bo should be 2/3 based on what he wants. Rest is a toss up at this stage. Semien is getting the benefit because he's a veteran, otherwise I think he'd be batting 6th to start. Springer Bo Vlad Teo Semien/Gurriel Semien/Gurriel Tellez Kirk Biggio Only flaw with this lineup is that 1 lefty can face both Tellez and Biggio. Ideally they'd be further apart in the lineup.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Plus, didn't he just sign a one year contract? Yeah, he's out for the year. Yates potentially coming back next year hinges on his willingness to sign a minor league deal with us. No other team will be willing to give him more than a minor league deal. It's all a matter of who he chooses. Hopefully, he feels he owes us and he signs back next year. He's unlikely to be ready for the start of the year next year either. Probably a May or June timeline.

After rehabbing all year in our beautiful facility in Dunedin, with top of the line trainers, etc... I think there's certain merit to this, actually. Or he says f*** off, I'm out...
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 Jays in on Mike Montgomery I would like that on a minor league deal.

It's not fair that a guy like him never even earned a solid paycheck as a pro. He was too damn skilled to make the peanuts he did. Good on AA for looking after his guys.
