Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 At least Dick Allen missed by just one vote. So it's not that egregious. Ken Boyer, the most WAR of them all, didn't even get four lol. Gil Hodges I can kind of see, since he managed the 1969 Mets. Gil Hodges the baseball player....probably not good enough. Gil Hodges the baseball player plus the manager of one of the more unlikely and fabled stories in baseball...just enough to squeak in.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 I mean is this the Harold Baines effect? If Harold's in, then so should Gil Hodges, Tony Oliva and Minnie Minoso? WTF? I'm OK with Kaat getting in... Is Minoso in because he's the first Cuban player to play in the bigs? Why would Hodges and Oliva get in over Dick Allen? Allen is the 18th best hitter of all time with over 60 career WAR, while Hodges and Oliva are around 40 career WAR. This is so bizarre. I hope these head scratching, moronic decisions aren't an annual thing. I guess it's good to know some of my favourites like Fred McGriff, Carlos Delgado, David Wright, Evan Longoria and Russell Martin will all be HOFers now too. Not to mention these players, who were all better than Hodges and Oliva: - Tony Phillips - JD Drew - Mark Grace - Mark Teixeria - Johnny Damon - Josh Donaldson - Ben Zobrist - Jose Reyes - Jose Canseco What a joke. Demeaning what it means to be in the MLB HOF. Jack Morris/Baines are in, but fill in the blanks better choice is not. Its becoming like the Gold Glove awards used to be when Jeter won a bunch. SMH.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 Joe Carter will probably get in at this rate. He's famous. Wearing a Jays hat!

I agree to your general point but don’t forget the “new norm” is about personality and all that- forget Canseco, Reyes, JD types. The other guys will prob find their way in at some point lol. Pretty s*****
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Morosi speculating that the Mets might have interest in Pete Walker to fill their managerial position.

Everyone knows you need bigtime major league manager experience to handle being a manager in New York. It's like, harder and s***. /sarcasm Pete would probably make a great manager.

Finally, the poor bastard was blackballed from MLB. lol
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Finally, the poor bastard was blackballed from MLB. lol He really didn't do himself any favours though.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 He really didn't do himself any favours though. I mean, how toxic could he be? Guy's a good player.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 I mean, how toxic could he be? Guy's a good player. Pretty toxic if no one is interested. Look at how many complete losers there are still playing in pro baseball with history of s***** behavior (in all sports for that matter). If an organization thinks you're good enough to help them win on the field they'll overlook almost any past transgression. Either Puig just isn't any good anymore, or he truly is a Grade A piece of s*** person.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 It might be a combo of things that took him to Korea, I wouldn't say he was really blackballed. He first priced himself out of the market when he became a free agent, he had been offered a 1 year deal for 10M, which he should have taken. He only had 1.2 WAR the season going into free agency, and only 1.8 prior to that. Teams don't want commit longterm to a 1 WAR player with supposed attitude problems. He was about to sign a contract with the Braves in 2020, but caught covid so they didn't go through with the signing. Then the sexual assault lawsuit happened so no team probably wanted the publicity from that while it was ongoing, that just got settled in October. And this offseason probably only got minor league offers so he decided to go to Korea for more money. I could see him getting offers next offseason for a guaranteed multimillion deal if he tears up the KBO.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 I mean, how toxic could he be? Guy's a good player. Is he still good though? Would he be worth more then an MiLB deal. He's 31, and was just out OPS'd in the Mexican league by a 39 year old Adrián González. Other notable players that were better then him include Kennys Vargas, Luis Sardiñas, and Alexi Amarista

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Bruh - he won a gold glove in the Mexican League. He's big time still! Not sure if this is sarcasm? He was below average in RF in the majors. He has a cannon for an arm, but that's it. The league leader in OPS (Jon Singleton) signed for a minors deal.

Other notable players that were better then him include Kennys Vargas, Luis Sardiñas, and Alexi Amarista He might suck donkey piss now, for all I know... but he was blackballed for some reason. The 1.8 fWAR he had was in 448 PA's with a 128 wRC+, he had a down season in '19, but I doubt many at the time thought he was Poop, he still put up 18 WAR in several seasons. Meh, I don't really give a s*** to be honest, but he was indeed good enough to play in the MLB.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 F'ing Astros would sign the devil if he could play MLB. And they had OF needs in 2020. But no to Puig.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Bonds and Clemens both at 76.5% of HOF voting so far. Super early of course as there's still tons of ballots out there, but... Is this the year?

Then I hope they take a syringe out and inject themselves with steroids on stage, drop the mic and flip the double bird to the world. Edited December 13, 2021 by John_Havok
