Were you actually paying attention to what was said about Vladdy Jr. by management when he was held back? He was said to need to work on baserunning, defense and conditioning. All three were obvious issues when he made his debut, which completely validated what Atkins stated he needed to work on. Even the touted MLB ready bat still led to a player who went through prolonged struggles at times. This wasn't a player who was fully formed and ready for prime time such as Kris Bryant, this was a young immature kid with precocious talent but poor routines that needed further refinement in every aspect of his game.

YUP, and 1 month more should do it for Vladdy. Just a coincidence that aligns to the service time LOL.

Last comment from me on this but this further extends my point. WTF is everyone getting so offended about?

From this speech Japanese and the translator are offended...really?? BOOHOO

He spoke the truth on a few topics that I found refreshing. Stepped over the bounds on what a management person should say in some cases but nothing everyone didn't already know.

I get offended by liars. Do you think Atkins and Shapiro were lying to fans when they were saying Vladdy needs to go down for a month to learn to be the best team mate he can be. BAHAHAHAHA.

If they weren't lying they would say Kid can rake and would help the lineup. Want him to get MLB exposure ASAP and coaching from the big league coaches BUT we can't because we will lose a year of service.

I honestly can't understand or get behind the "people should be bigger *******s and not care about, or face consequences for, the things that come out of their mouth" stance.

That goes with everyone, bro. Iceman, sure, it isn't anything I guess!

I wasn't trying to single Iceman out, just... What's the benefit for Atkins telling the truth all the time? What's the benefit in trying to offend people (your players/staff in particular)? What's the harm in "messaging" things to avoid giving away inside information, or being polite to people and respecting their views, even if they differ from yours?

It's just like... Being an ******* shouldn't be the goal, unless there's a benefit to it (which there rarely is...).

I think this person's argument is getting mixed up in being against cancel culture. If this was some nobody on Twitter yapping dumb s*** and a horde of SJWs decided to dox the guy and cost him his job, then yes I'm against that.

But this is not what happened. This was from the mouth of the CEO of an MLB team, one of only 30 prestigious positions available in the world. He embarrassed his team and his sport. This cancel culture exemption stance shouldn't apply to people in power. If we let society go down this rabbit hole of unchallenged nonsense from people with power with no consequences, hiding behind the guise of telling it like it is and free speech, you're just going to get more and more Trudeaus and Trumps leading things. People in power deserve more scrutiny for what they say and do, not less.

Agreed. If we're going to scrutinize these people in power, we should get Mark Shapiro fired. His hairline offends me.

Angels hurler/slugger Shohei Ohtani is under the microscope as he looks to get his pitching career back on track. As Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports on Twitter, Ohtani appears to be in a good place from a velocity perspective. The righty says he’s working comfortably in the mid-nineties in bullpen sessions and has touched 97 mph. When last we saw Ohtani in top form, during his brief but scintillating 2018 debut, he was averaging nearly 97 mph with his heater. The hopefully resurgent two-way player is also now toying with a changeup as he fine-tunes his arsenal.

Would be amazing to see Ohtani pull off a full season doing both, like everyone hoped from day 1

Last year was so sad. Everyone was excited to see him back and healthy on the mound, but he gets bombed over two short starts and then shut down. Then he also forgets how to hit, for good measure.

You have to think he's done pitching if things don't go well this year.

He's such a polarizing player. It would be amazing to see him put the pitching and hitting together for an extended stretch 4-5 years. It would be historic for baseball. But I agree, if the pitching fails again this year, they are probably better off putting him in RF and letting him develop into a 4-5 WAR RFer instead of wasting the talent as a DH/pitcher who doesn't do either very well.

Either way - it will probably be fascinating to watch it play out.

Surprised the following huge news hasn't been talked about here already lol.

So is Puig just not going to play again?

Couldnt he get a deal in Asia?

Somehow that feels like what he should do at this point

So many players out of work still. :(

I don't think I'd have the stomach to wait out any longer if I'm a guy sitting on any major league offer right now

Have to think that he just hasn't been offered a guaranteed deal and he's holding out for one.
