BTS Community Moderator Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Arenado could be getting traded soon. Feels like a Dodgers move.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Feels like a Dodgers move. Could see the Mets getting involved. They still have one too many 1B/DH types and there's no DH, so Dom Smith could be going the other way. On the other hand that would have the Rockies actually addressing a position of need sensibly and that just sounds too good to be true.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 This is pretty crazy: After all the trades Pirates have made the last year, they only have $3M in guaranteed commitments for the 2022 season, and $0 beyond that.

You sure? Snell pops to mind right away. He’s guaranteed, not options right?

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Mets can’t not sign Bauer with Cohen’s cash. Come playoffs Degrom, Bauer, Synder is exciting stuff. Stroman can try to compete for 4th man

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Rather see Bauer in the National League if he isn't coming here so won't even be bad at it.

jerb Verified Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Jon Heyman @JonHeyman Adam Frazier is being discussed on trade market. Could be the next Pirate to move.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Frazier would be a really nice utility knife on our bench - not that I'd give up a lot to get him...
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 We already have Grichuk as our 4th OFer and have Biggio who can play all over the diamond. I think they're done in the position player market with the exception of a guy like Panik who we'd get on a minor league deal.

What a slutty move by the Orioles. - The Athletic: In a highly unusual and potentially alarming example of slashing expenses this winter, the Orioles asked two arbitration-eligible players to accept deferrals of a portion of their one-year salaries so the full amounts wouldn’t be on the 2021 ledger, according to multiple industry sources. As part of arbitration negotiations earlier this month, sources said, the Orioles hoped to shift roughly 25 percent of the 2021 salaries for two of their best players, infielder/outfielder Trey Mancini and outfielder Anthony Santander, to 2022 and/or 2023 as a way to keep the club’s payroll down as the Orioles struggle with cashflow after a pandemic-marred season without gate receipts. An injury to Bo, Semien and Cavan and we're back to starting Espinal or someone like Panik. Someone like Frazier or Lowrie would add the depth that Grichuk does in the OF. It's probably not an immediate priority, but not a bad idea.

And there will be guys like that available as Spring Training starts.

Semien and Bichette @ SS, the two of them, Biggio, Vlad @ 3B. Basically, if there is an injury, Grichuk comes off the bench and players get moved around. As a few posters mentioned earlier, Brad Miller is a nice target. Can play 3B, SS, 2B, OF adequately but more importantly has very good numbers against right handed pitching. Significant hitting splits, a guy you pencil into the lineup against tough righties and use for PH duties.

Not sure we actually want Vlad starting at 3rd for an extended period. I suspect the FO will add someone with versatility in the infield to compliment what we have.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Waino staying in STL for 8M Good for both parties. Hopefully we get some fans later into the season so he gets a nice send-off if he calls it a career.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Waino staying in STL for 8M Really cool that he keeps finding a way to help that team. I thought Wainwright was done four or five years ago. 2015 - achilles rupture at 33... career over? 2017 - bad ERA, velo below 90... career over? 2018 - elbow inflammation keeps him down for a long time... career over? 2020 - pandemic that kills old people... will he survive?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 I know wins don't matter, but 19+ wins in 4 out of 5 years between 2009 and 2014 is still pretty awesome.
