I think Boston could be a sleeper...

I think Hou is a sleepier sleeper. Don’t think there was anything wrong there except he was looking for way more than they were willing to pay. When he likely has to come back to earth a bit, they could be in the mix. Not like they’re tearing it down and not competing

Have any of these teams been linked to him?

What do you think of that contract suggestion?

Mets were linked to him flirting with a $150m price tag. I’m not sure why the Bluejays were so proud to get linked with 5/110 and considering that hot and heavy. I’m just spit balling (based on reports though) but I’d imagine Springer made his demands known and a lot of teams were out but as he considers lesser offers, I’d imagine his agent would start reaching out to teams to let them know. At that point, something could happen quick with a team that isn’t Mets or Jays

Wasn't 5/150 BS or prior to the Lindor trade??? Also, loved the C-poop insider take.

I used the word “flirting” as exact number of Mets offer wasn’t known. But reports were that he wanted a lot more than $150m. So based on his reports, his initial ask could’ve been something like 6/180. Just using common logic that a lot of teams would balk at that after checking in (or Houston when they discussed extending him) but made their interest known. So the agent would circle back when/if the numbers change by a lot.

I really think Jays were used to make the Mets bid against themselves from what we know. If 5/110 was the Jays offer that’s the only thing you can surmise

What does it matter that we've been linked if the player himself hasn't taken whatever we've put out there. We've been linked to almost every free agent and how's that worked out for us so far?

Either Springer doesn't actually want to be here or he's stuck on getting a particular dollar value that we've yet to meet. Another team can easily come in if they feel their other avenues haven't worked out or if they know Springer's original ask is coming back down.

A positive attribute of Shatkins is that they're financially responsible but that can also work against you when you're bidding for top tier talent via trade or via free agency.

The Jays offer was after Lindor was traded, no one has been rumoured to have beaten that, or even interested since.

Are there any other suitors for Springer than the Jays and a very warm Mets feel on this? We needn't bid against ourselves, but Jays should offer 6/135 and be done with it. Push everyone off.

What say you, mofo's?

"Don't bid against yourself"

also

"Increase your bid"

So the Angels reached deals with their other 5 players but saw fit to go to war with Ohtani over a few hundred thousand dollars?

small differences early in arb can = bigger differences later in arb

True. And also breeds resentment. You have to balance those things I suppose.

Also remind me... Why is Ohtani treated like regular drafted MLB players VS the posted players on free agent type contracts like Darvish and Yamaguchi. Because of the age at which he came over?

Yes, he could've waited a year and came as an FA, but he didn't care for money. He bet on himself.

Kluber gets 1/11 from the Yankees. I bet he gives them a nice season.

Good deal for the Yanks, IMO. Some risk, but affordable risk.

They obviously prefer Kluber 1/11 over Tanaka 3/45 or something like that

Unless they plan to keep Tanaka too but I doubt it

28 teams in baseball give Kluber that contract. Kluber basically picked the org he wanted to play for in 2021. It's good to be the Yankees...

Surprised he wouldn't use that leverage to give himself a player option for year 2 just to protect himself from injury/underperforming.

I understand why he'd go to the Yankees but just thought he could use that leverage of interest to protect himself. Not like the Yankees would be cash strapped for next season but I guess you're right.

He's pitched 36 innings in 2 years, there's not much leverage, after taking a 11M deal from the Bronx Bombers, I'm sure he's happy.

Now who's Paxton going to pick!

Isnt Paxtons velocity still down?

Would rather look elsewhere

He was hitting 94 in an off season throwing session. I'm sure he has some more left in the tank. One of Paxton's greatest attributes is he's a guy who might actually come here. No one else will!

He isn't in for Canada discount seeing as how it went last time, we were connected.

Russell Martin showed that there are no such things as home country discounts but at least he wouldn't be totally objected to the idea.
