I hope they mean play 3B and damn that's a lot even if it's only 1 year. If true, I guess they're using him as a stopgap for when Martin/Groshans come up in 2022.

Agreed on hoping he plays 3b. Although I think 18m for Semien is an absolute steal. I'd be fine with 3 years at the AAV if thats what it took

I know Semien's defensive metrics have hovered between awful earlier in his career to well above average the past two seasons which leaves some question marks as to how good of a SS he really is defensively. But you have to think he is at least a plus defensive 2B, right?

He's been comfortably elite the last 3 years. There are no defensive concerns.

It's crazy how few hitting spots are actually available going into ST with everyone healthy. Feels like a Dodgers situation. The only real question as things stand is with the catchers: does Kirk start with the team? If so, one of Jansen or McGuire need to be traded. Or maybe just cut in McGuire's case.

 

I guess they could also look for a better bench infielder than Espinal, as he still has options remaining. It's not even really necessary that our bench infielder play SS, with both Semien and Bichette around.

I'm not expecting much more. Maybe one SP (Paxton fits the Semien/Yates/Ray mold of buy low one year deals) and then some smaller depth moves.
