Oh ok yeah you are probably right. I only really see it used with Kris Bryant so my brain must have taken a leap on its own.

He was decent enough in 2018 and in 2019 he still missed bats - it seems like there was some rough HR luck.

 

If his surgery was successful I like his chances of being effective but I would not expect him to be an above average SP ever again. TOS surgery isn't as easy to come back from as TJS.

It really is uncanny. It is like they have a fortune teller on staff. As a GM, I just wouldn't make trades with that club.

Actually, he was good up until '19 (119 IP), the same year he got hurt and had to get TOS, problem is he has had TOS, lol.

Didi at 3B would be great, but I'm not moving Bo off SS for anyone that is available in free agency right now. If Didi would be willing to move to 3B (or 2B) full time, then he's a nice fit.

I really wonder what the Mariners want (can get?) for Seager. His salary is $18.5M this year and has a buyout for 0-3M based on incentives. So Seattle would have to pay something like $20M for Seager's 2021 and buyout probably. And they just traded for Ty France last year and have to use him at DH. Wouldn't they want to look at him at 3rd?

 

Wouldn't they just take Roark and a fringe prospect to get off about $8M in salary? And they're also so scared about innings for their SPs that they might use a 6 man rotation. But who better to eat innings than a "Diesel engine"?

 

What also works in our negotiating favour is that Seager gets a player option for $15M if he's traded (which is maybe fine for us?)

 

But we can hold that over DiPoto and negotiate the prospect capital down.

 

I would think that Seager is worth nothing on that contract if Brantley just signed for 2/$32M. Maybe Seager is worth less than nothing.

 

To the purchaser that contract is 2/$33.5M but it can increase to 2/$38.5M based on performance incentives (no idea what they are but they can apparently increase that 2022 player option to $20M).

 

Dipoto is going to want a prospect back to look good and make the trade worthwhile so I think the only way it works is if it's a C prospect for Seager and the Mariners kick in like $10M to buy the prospect and pay part of Seager's salary.

Seager is definitely a guy I'd like the front office to target. His salary isn't terrible considering he has 3 win upside, he plays a decent third base and would come with several years of control. After a rough 2018 he's rebounded nicely, producing 4.4 FWAR in 166 games.

The Blue Jays have designated right-hander Anthony Castro for assignment, Scott Mitchell of TSN tweets. The move clears space for the signing of righty Tyler Chatwood, whose one-year, $3MM contract is now official.

I don't really understand how you can be high on Seager but scoff at Gregorious despite the latter likely ending up costing less. Is it that Seager hits the ball a bit harder? They project to be basically the same player with minor differences in their hitting profile.

 

I simply think that Seager is a better player at this point of his career than Gregorius is and offers higher upside. I have strong suspicions that Gregorius is going to see his production tank as he was likely the recipient of good extremely good fortune in 2020.

I would be VERY happy grabbing Didi. Taking a look at fangraphs, he projects > 2 WAR. That is awesome. He has plus defense at SS, but I assume he would play 3B for the Jays. Or would e play 2B with Biggio playing 3B? I think Didi's arm is better than Cavan's but I am not sure.

Now that CF is covered for the foreseeable future, where do you guys see Martin playing? Say he comes up as early as May, 2022, where do you think his best spot is? I know this offseason (and next) are far from over, but ideally is his best position SS? Does he have the arm for 3B. Maybe he'd be a good corner OF?

No need to make that decision now. He can probably be a very good 3rd baseman, but we might leave him in CF as we should expect Springer to slide over to RF in 2024 or 2025 (maybe sooner?)

Of course his arm is better than Cavan's, he's a SS.
