Some guys on MLB radio are saying *9/10 Brantley goes to TO, the issue is only 2 yrs vs 3yrs.. Other guys saying 7/10... Regardless, seems high probability with only a an issue of years... FWIW

*One of the guys supposedly has contacts in his agency..

They nailed it!

Is there any chance they're actually thinking of moving Gurriel back to the infield??

I've kinda wondered that. You have to think no, but it's certainly not a bad option to have.

Yeah

I think more likely a trade but...

Playing 2nd base almost gave the guy a nervous breakdown, he's just so much more natural in the outfield that it may be harmful to move him back.

I know people keep throwing Wong's name out there, but what about the poor man's DJL, Tommy La Stella instead? Decent OBP/contact guy. Could play second or third and hold down either position until Martin/JG are ready.

Three pieces of dead weight need to be cut now. I'm really hoping Yamaguchi doesn't survive this.

He'd better not. When is Trent Thornton expected to be ready?

I think La Stella would be a great fit. 2 years $14M or something.

Agreed. I think most are in favor... or favour as you Canadians say:)

@Feinsand

Toronto's signing of George Springer would seemingly take the Blue Jays out of the market for Trevor Bauer, but I'm told that might not necessarily be true. If Toronto gets Bauer to lead its rotation, the Jays would be a tough team for the AL to deal with in 2021.

I'm genuinely curious as to what the price would be on Jose Ramirez.

LGJ + Groshans + SWR + Moreno? Am I far off?

That's just a tad too expensive for 3 years of control....lol

No thanks I’d rather keep the prospects and sign Tommy La Stella

Depends what a team is looking for. Not saying it’s apples to apples but the trade that pops to mind where it’s an Uber elite player on 3 year cheap contract would be Sale- and he went for legit #1 prospect in baseball plus whenever Kopech was ranked. You’d have to think they’d want at least 1 Top 10-20 guy w/star potential. You got an army of fringe Top 100 dudes in there. Quantity over quality I guess

BA ranked Groshans in the 30s

Taijuan tweeted this to Sid Seixero after the Jays signed Springer?

With those other tweets between him and Teo, if feels like he and T.O are in a pending agreement or something...

I think he really wants to stay. I'd imagine there is no agreement in place because he's also liked some stuff about returning to Seattle but he's been very vocal on twitter about wanting to stay in Toronto.

I know a lot of people on here don't want Taijuan at all partly due to injury risk and low reward, but this is a great article on fangraphs about his dive into analytics. He legitimately loves the info and technology and wants to maximize it to help his game. He's still only 28

Laurila: You mentioned really liking Seattle because of technology and coaches like Pete Woodworth. How did Toronto compare?

Walker: “I feel like they had even a little bit more. Even though we were in Buffalo, they had it set up in the stadium, so after the game you could see the slo-mo video and the numbers. What kind of sucked is that they had all that stuff available, and I was only there for a month and a half. I didn’t get a chance to really dive into it with [pitching coach] Pete Walker.

Laurila: It sounds like you’d be happy to go back to either place.

Walker: “For sure. Especially… I mean, I feel like the Blue Jays are pretty far ahead of the game with all the technology, all the data, and the way they set it up. They’re really prepared. Pete Walker is amazing. I wish I’d have had more time to work on stuff with him.”

If we are going expensive Bauer and Paxton all day long. If we're going cheap I'd go Paxton and Walker on one year deals. Odorizzi and Tanaka want 3 year deals and next year's starting free agent pitcher market looks very good. I want the money to spend next year.

Yeah, I've read that chat, I'm a Taijuan fan, I wouldn't be upset if he's an addition after some other names. It's starting to look like the Birds are all in on FA.

Interesting stuff. If the FO believes Walker has a lot of untapped potential with the analytics, then it might make him a good target.

I'm also curious. Do teams work with their players during the offseason? Are the Jays currently influencing what Pearson is doing in his offseason workouts? Are they reviewing tape on his mechanics and outings last year to help him prepare for 2021? Or are players kind of on their own to do whatever they want.

I ask, as it would be a significant disadvantage for someone like Walker, as a FA. Sounds like he loved what the Jays were doing, but wasn't here long enough to dive into it. Ideally, he'd be using this offseason to work with their staff, understand it more and possibly make some adjustments this offseason.

I believe the answer is no - teams don't work with players in the offseason. Seems like it could be somewhat of a missed opportunity. Christ - I work with my U11 team during the winter (for those who want to come out and when it doesn't interfere with hockey or other commitments).

Thanks for posting this

There are a lot of positives to be taken from these quotes whether he stays here or not

Would love the Jays to be known as an organization where pitchers want to come and work with our staff and facilities.

Pitchers seem to love Pete Walker. I don't think i have ever heard a negative thing said about him, wonder if he gets a shot some day at managing or if he is happy being the pitching guru at the Jays, Don't really want to lose him.

Also i would be happy with a Walker/Paxton get should be able to get Walker for 2 years and maybe Paxton on 2 but it might take 3years.

Ryu

Paxton

Pearson

Walker

Ray/Stripling

Thats not a terrible Rotation there.
