Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Jim, stop being a wanker You mean stop being a racist wanker...
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 By the way, this is spot on. I said basically the same thing a week or so ago to Jim saying wait until the FA class of 2021. This off season is different and 2021 will not be in our competitive favor like this year. Strike while the iron is hot Carpe diem A bird in the hand better then two in the bush Geterrr done! Less talk, more action And all that! I’ll believe the Covid discount theory when I see it. Hasn’t manifested itself yet. If Gausman 3/40 is true that’s normal market value prob. I don’t know Boris personally but I can’t imagine he wants to hear the word Covid when negotiating Paxton’s contract for example. I think the teams that Covid knocks out are the teams that weren’t going to be in on the better FA. I think there will definitely be some posturing on owners parts but in the end, I think players will get what they expected. We’ll see

We’ll see Gausman accepted a QO as did Stroman, that is two this year when since when the QO started in 2012 there have been a total of 9 who accepted prior. That right there should tell you this is not a normal off season.

He bet on himself and lost. Gausman isn’t worth $19m/yr, he didn’t even have a rotation spot 2 years ago. If he has another strong year, it’ll help his cause for sure. Stroman we don’t know what, if anything, he received in terms of longer offer. The aav was probably shy of $19m as it would be pre-Covid after he didn’t pitch for a year and was a little checkered in the years before. He’s also betting on himself

I also think FA's know that if they accept the QO, the following offseason they won't have draft pick compensation attached to their contracts and that increases their value.

Ugh, damn my old man brain, but there was a journeyman INF who had a great year a few years ago, and turned down a QO, and never came close to that again. And now he may be out of baseball. Or close. s*** I will need to do some Googling.

He rejected a QO, but got 3 years,$37.5M Contract....he's pretty much out of baseball now.

You’re comping Stroman to a guy coming off 2 great years when there’s always been good pedigree... vs a guy that didn’t even pitch prior year, the year before that he was really good, and they year before he was pretty forgettable But I’ll agree with your sentiment that there’d be a multi-year deal for him. We don’t know if something like 5/80 wasn’t floated out and Stroman thinks of himself as an ace. That’s an entirely possible scenario but you could be right. I’ll wait to see the next contracts roll in though
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 I was reading a baseball site who has got all the predictions right so far for the offseason FAs, QO etc, albeit not many so far... T The only FA of note they have coming to the Jays is Brad Hand... I think some of you on here are going to be extremely Blue Jays balled. I hope they are wrong...

Our management has done nothing but pour gasoline on this fire. If that is our biggest acquisition of the offseason, fans will riot lol.

On Lindor: "I’ve had several people tell me that the Blue Jays really want him"

Bturn2210 Verified Member Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 damn that Shi article gets me horny..Please bring us Springer, Atkins and Shapiro!..oh, and Lindor
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 It has been well rumored Springer is talking with the Jays, but also the Red Sox and Mets.. The latter two are favored. A Lindor deal I could see happening more so then Springer signing as a FA. We are deep in the farm in some areas the Indians want, the whole Indians relationship and familiarity and we have the money to do an extension. Plus Lindor is like 27 vs Springer 31 or 32 so it makes sense to dump more money and give up prospects for a 27 yr old. They can slot Martin to CF in the future.
Bturn2210 Verified Member Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Just want the jays to make a move so we can get some clarity as to the route they are taking this off season..so many possibilities..have a lot of catching depth to deal from so if they did sign realmuto, some of that depth would be traded for a SP.

I feel a Springer signing would make a Lindor trade easier since we could trade Gurriel or Teo without hurting our lineup. It just makes too much sense but obviously there has to be genuine interest on both ends.

He is not the top FA, it tends to go from worst to best, Springer and Bauer are the last. It is also not a ranking, it is a destination prediction. Read it without the BC Gold bro
