Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Wow... where does he fit if our team is fully healthy? Does he take 3b full time?

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Villar is like the player AA thought Emilio Bonifacio was. Seems like a great fit, honestly.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Great fit, presumably low cost. This has been a good deadline
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Apparently Starling Marte is about to be traded to the Marlins and Dan on the broadcast insinuated that perhaps Marte is being flipped as part of a three-team deal... the subtext being that maybe the Jays are getting him as well.
TheDragon Verified Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Pretty good, he can do some things
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 6 WAR in the last 2 seasons. Will be interesting to see the price.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 ss/2b/3b/of You assume OF/SS/2B are already taken. 3B is the only spot you can see him playing full time since Shaw is up and down. Does he bat leadoff ahead of Biggio?
Funky Verified Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Switch hitter with speed that can play all over. Leads majors in steals. Has some pop. But who did we give up?
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 No word yet on what they got but it might be really low cost.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Does he bat leadoff ahead of Biggio? I sure as f*** hope we don't take our .390 OBP guy out of the leadoff spot. Biggio getting on base is probably the single biggest driver of the recent success.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 No word yet on what they got but it might be really low cost. Atkins doesn't do trades unless the cost is low.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 Atkins doesn't do trades unless the cost is low. For where we are right now, that's a good thing.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I like the Villar pickup (assuming nothing of real value is being traded). Solid utility player with speed, and hopefully enough vetrin presents to push Panik down in Charlie's eyes.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I imagine he'll be the main SS until Bo is back... But where when Bo comes back? If we have a Villar move to 3rd, you'd have to assume our infield defense would improve dramatically on top of our team speed. So happy to have him instead of Panick and Drury.

Biggio getting on base is probably the single biggest driver of the recent success. If Buntoyo is old school he'll put Villar leadoff and slide everyone else back one spot.
Funky Verified Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 So we have basically added Villar and Vogelbach on offense Ray and Walker as starters Sounds like Giles is close. Well we are better than we were a week ago. No more Drury and way less Panik is a good thing
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 If Buntoyo is old school he'll put Villar leadoff and slide everyone else back one spot. Where do you think he belongs?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Dinger is officially back It's been less of an ******* wasteland around here lately, mod game has been stepped up.

Yeah, I think he takes over at 3rd most of the time (in a perfect world, given our current roster construction). Though, I'm not sure he's a defensive upgrade over Drury, who is a very good 3B (but such a black hole with the bat that he shouldn't be anywhere near a MLB team ever again...). I'm not familiar enough with Villar's defence to say for sure, however.
