Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 So you're saying they're asking for Teoscar and McGuire for Plesac. Where do I sign? In general I would keep Teo and move Grichuk if someone would take him. Grichuk is too streaky for me, too high Ks and low OBP and not even plus D. Plus I think he will end up being the second coming of Stroman's Twitter account.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Cleveland doesn't need pitching. They can develop SP's in their sleep. I'm sure they'll focus on position players as the main pieces in return for Clevinger/Plesac.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 I would be fine cashing out on Grichuk but I don’t like the idea of trading Hernandez yet. I still have hope he can figure it out. Even some of the things he said the other day in the game when he took 3 walks. My worst fear is its going to click and hes Jose Bautista somewhere else. I don’t see any scenario in which any lineup piece is moved off the roster anyway. I just don’t move a top position player prospect either. Unless its of the younger Latin prospects further away on top of some lower level prospects.

By statcast Teoscar has actually been slightly unlucky, his expected WOBA is .411 vs his actual WOBA of .394. He's been destroying baseballs for 4 months straight now, I would argue he's already figured things out to a large degree.

Sure, he could regress, but he looks like he has definitely "figured it out". What more would you like to see from him before you are happy?

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Take more walks and chase significantly less ideally. Mike Trout 2.0
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Mike Trout 2.0 Let’s relax a bit. I just don’t know if Hernandez even with those great numbers is sustainable. He might be able to make a career of beating up s*** pitching. But with those chase rates and low walk rates he’s going to get abused by good pitching. I don’t think the Jays have faced a lot of good pitching this year.

You need to be pretty sure about what you're getting back. I wouldn't trade Plesac for Hernandez.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Atkins actually generating some positive PR for once.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 I'm still very much in the sell camp, just rare to see Atkins doing anything positive in the media. The Jays have nothing to sell, and every team behind them in the standings is ass. Atkins has no choice but to add at this point. It's either that or stand pat, but incremental improvements for a month shouldn't cost much.

So many easy talent upgrades for cheap makes watching this team more enjoyable in September because they aren’t promoting any top prospects. We won’t have Baseball again until March : (

Not in the traditional rental sense but there are definitely guys on this team performing well that I would explore options. You're right though, I completely get with the position they are in it's either stand pat or make some low cost upgrades.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 I wouldn’t be against going after Mitch Moreland. If nothing else atleast we wouldn’t have to face him anymore.
Bturn2210 Verified Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 get us a bat, Atkins. so sick of Panik, Drury and sometimes even Rowdy. Need more quality at bats. La Stella would be perfect.
Ray Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Rays trade Lucius Fox for OF Brett Philips from the Royals.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 So who are the sellers? Definite sellers: Pittsburgh, Boston, Kansas City, Seattle, Los Angeles Angels. Probable sellers: Detroit, Baltimore, Miami. Possible sellers: San Francisco, Texas. That's only 10 of the 30 teams. possible trade #2: Andrelton Simmons to Toronto: The market for a player like Simmons, an all-time great defender at shortstop, is every bit as slim, though that won't keep the Angels from trying to find him a landing spot. Most playoff contenders have shortstops, and Simmons' bat doesn't play at DH. But with star shortstop Bo Bichette out for an undetermined amount of time with a knee injury, renting Simmons -- even if the Blue Jays' staff generates ground balls only 40% of the time -- would be a mighty upgrade over the out-of-position Joe Panik or Santiago Espinal.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Lance Lynn, Kevin Gausman, Trevor Williams, and Chad Kuhl are still possible trade targets. The Jays are still looking to add more run prevention before the deadline and possibly another bat. LA Angels should be heating up the stove as well.

I think they should be fine with Ryu/Roark/Anderson/Walker and then the MerryGuchi tandem for the rest of the season. I hope they are focusing more on a bat now.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) This team really needs a 3rd baseman. I was really happy with the move to add Shaw and see if he could regain his 2017-2018 form - especially with another year of control. But it's looking like he won't. We probably need a starting 3rd baseman for the remainder of this season + 2021 at least until Groshans or Martin are ready. I think we should target Kyle Seager. He's under control for 2021 at $18M and then has a 2022 option. He isn't sexy, but he'll plug a pretty glaring hole. Edited August 28, 2020 by Brownie19

Not like he’s a big upgrade but for the cost
